Walking – 6-10 km (4-6 mi.) a day on country lanes, footpaths and coastal or forest trails, all on relatively flat terrain, perhaps with an occasional hill.
Level 2: Recreational
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over terrain that’s relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.
Walking – 8-12 km (5-7 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain, with occasional steeper climbs.
Level 3: Enthusiast
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day in gently rolling countryside, with occasional longer climbs to points that are well worth the effort.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over rolling terrain on a variety of surfaces. Most days, one or two steeper climbs to spectacular viewpoints or places of interest.
Level 4: Avid
Biking – Roughly 50 km (30 mi.) a day in consistently rolling countryside, with repeated climbs and longer options available.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) over terrain that varies between rolling and hilly, with a few steeper climbs.
Level 5: Expert
Biking – 50-60 km (30-45 mi.) a day over both level and tougher, hillier terrain with multiple 100 km (62 mi.) options. The routes are designed for avid cyclists and include plenty of chances to push yourself.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over fairly hilly terrain offering lots of challenges. Routes are along high meadow paths and/or well-maintained cliffside or alpine trails, with a few steep ascents to make you feel invigorated.
The beating heart of the Balearic Islands
The alluring riches of the Mediterranean are sure to seduce: limestone cliffs, azure blue shores, swathes of almond groves and artichoke fields, to name a few. Experience it all on this journey through Mallorca; a biker’s paradise, with options for every riding ability, from the level interior to the leg-working coast. (On your trusty e-bike you get to decide when to sweat and when to cruise.) Day by Day
Today's ride starts near Santa Maria, passing through quiet villages as we hug the base of the magnificent Tramuntana range. We stop in Selva for a light lunch before continuing to our hotel for time to settle in.
We ride out from the hotel on small country roads towards the coast and cycle along the sea to the bustling town of Alcudia. Savour a delicious seafood lunch before an optional visit to a local textile factory.
Tackle one of Europe’s top rides—“the lighthouse ride” to Cap de Formentor. For our final night at Son Brull, the sommelier will educate us on all things gin-related followed by an elevated dinner.
From our hotel, we embark on a beautiful ride through the heart of Mallorca, winding our way to Sineu to visit a 14th-century farmers market. Our ride ends at Mesquida Mora for a picnic lunch and wine tasting.
Today is all about the coast and its beaches! We cycle out to the seaside village of Cala Figure where we swap our bikes for a boat ride to Cassai Beach House for lunch.
Following breakfast together, we drive you to the Palma de Mallorca airport (a 1.5-hour drive) for connecting flights home.
Sink into Mediterranean seascapes.
Finca Serena, Montuiri
Settle in at this quintessential Mediterranean oasis. Lounge by the pool among the swathes of orchards and untouched nature. Breathe easy in your simplistic yet luxurious suite where all your needs have been considered. Amenities are endless here, from garden grown fare to spa treatments and wellness classes.
Son Brull Hotel & Spa, Pollenca
Deep in the valley opening onto the Bay of Pollença, among groves of fruit and olive trees, lies a 16thC convent that has been converted into one of the most stylish five-star boutique hotels in Mallorca. Forever searching for the next great getaway, 12 years ago our researchers were the first people to make reservations at the newly-opened Son Brull, and B&R is proud to return here year after year.
Belmond La Residencia, Deia
La Residencia, a 17thC manor house turned divine hotel has everybody talking including the folks at Condé Nast Traveler. Rumour has it the King of Spain has been known to drop in, as well as British royalty and several pop stars. Do they come for the spa treatments, the secluded gardens, the restaurant renowned as one of the best in all of Spain or to hear the 1887 Steinway piano? We suspect all of the above.
Local touches at every turn are what makes B&R special.—David Duncan
The region, biking routes, hotels, food and wine selection, and most importantly, the guides, all amazing! Bravo!—Brian Kneebone
While our daily routes average from 25 km to 80 km (16 to 50 mi.), e-bike technology brings the peaks within everybody’s reach. The Mallorcan coastline is alive with hills though, and the more time you’ve spent in the saddle the more you will enjoy the ride.
