We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.

Uruguay is a discreet but exquisite blend of beauty, simplicity and luxury. Start in the heart of the capital and work your way east to explore the still-virgin countryside and wind-swept white-sand beaches. From the undulating green of “Uruguayan Tuscany,” with its vineyards blanketing the hills, to Punta del Este, a shining, glass beacon of South American summer, to Jose Ignacio, a simple yet sophisticated hamlet on the Atlantic coast. The decadent beaches, the elegant countryside, a deep respect for culture, a love of gastronomy and the warmth of the people make it hard to believe that so much can be packed into such a small place, which is exactly why we love Uruguay.
*This trip is best enjoyed during Uruguay’s summer season—see “Best Time to Visit” for details.
