We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
Take a walk on the wild side
Get up close and personal with the giants of Africa as we embark on both walking and traditional game drives for the ultimate safari experience. We’ll dine in the Ngorongoro crater among the lions and rhinos that call it home, revel in the electrifying colour of Lake Natron alongside flamingoes, and end our journey with perhaps the most surreal moment of all as we witness thousands of wildebeests and zebras race through the Serengeti. Equally relaxing as thrilling, we’ll have plenty of time to soak up the simple pleasures; making friends with the Maasai locals and ending our days with sundowners beneath the fiery setting sun.

Day by Day
Meet your B&R guide this morning for a short flight that brings us to our camp in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Venture out on an easy-going walk to learn about the region’s typography and the local Maasai culture.
Enjoy breakfast in the Ngorongoro Crater—a must-see on any trip to Tanzania. Track down the variety of wildlife that call the crater home before heading back to camp to share stories by the bonfire.
Circle the perimeter of the Empakaai Crater lake, surrounded by towering cliffs blanketed in lush forest. Marvel at colour of the salmon-pink flamingos that gather around marine blue shores.
Trek along the Great Rift valley and toward the crimson red Lake Natron. At our camp this evening, take a dip in one of the natural pools to cool down from the day.
Cross paths with the local Maasai people as we set out for a hike near the Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano. Follow in the footsteps of our ancestors as we trace hominid footprints; the oldest evidence of Homo sapiens known today.
Board a private charter to the Grumeti Reserve on the border of the western Serengeti and embark on a classic safari. Retire to our camp in evening to recount the day’s sightings over sundowners.
Head out on a morning and afternoon game drives in the Serengeti. Meet with the reserves anti-poaching team to learn how efforts are being made and battles won on the fight against this risky profession.
Set out on one last game drive to bid the wildlife farewell, before connecting with a scheduled charter flight back to Arusha. Enjoy a room for day use while you wait for your international flight home.
Up close encounters.

We never wanted to be the biggest travel company in the world, just the best.
— George Butterfield
I don’t know how B&R does it – the quality of their trips is so consistently high! Just when we think they couldn’t do anything as good as our last trip, they do! Another fantastic experience with B&R.— Carolyn Zaslaw

Sometimes your B&R trip simply isn’t long enough! Extend your stay for the best vacation possible. If you wish to spend a few days in region either before or after your official B&R trip, and need assistance making those plans, your B&R Travel Advisor can help.
Call us to create an independent travel experience that fits your needs—we can also arrange for a local guide.
Spend more time in Eastern Africa
Our trip drops off at Kilimanjaro Airport but, if you wish to extend your stay, we recommend spending a few more nights in the Grumeti, heading to the Southern Serengeti to one of the migration camps (in February), or up to the Lamai for a few more nights on safari. If you’re keen for some time at the beach, we would recommend spending time in Zanzibar or the Seychelles. There are plenty of options and our Africa team is happy to help.
