Sometimes your B&R trip simply isn’t long enough! Extend your stay for the best vacation possible. If you wish to spend a few days in region either before or after your official B&R trip, and need assistance making those plans, your B&R Travel Advisor can help. We can create an independent travel experience to fit your needs—and if you desire, arrange for a local guide.
The right number of like-minded travellers to make new friends.
Your dates. Your group. Our expertly-designed itinerary.
Tailored to your interests, a bespoke travel experience.
Combines the hallmarks of any B&R itinerary (excellent hotels and beautiful routes) with the freedom of pacing each day exactly the way you like.
Throughout the day, a knowledgeable local guide provides insider access and expert tips. At night, you can explore and dine on your own.
Our B&R guides are with you throughout, anticipating needs, translating languages, providing advice and—above all—facilitating fun.
We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
Walk among giants
An anything-but-standard expedition for the adventure-loving traveller who prefers to experience nature up close and personal. Witness untouched southern Tanzania, as you embark on both walking and traditional safari game drives for access to first-hand experiences (far better than your standard driving-only safaris!). Here, you’ll stay at luxury camps, spend a night beneath the African stars and make friends with elephants and antelopes. This is a true safari experience as it was meant to be. This trip can easily be paired with our Northern Walking Safari to get a full look at Tanzania.

Day by Day
Take a quick flight south from Dar es Salaam to the Selous Game Reserve. Your hosts will see you to your room, allowing time for you to relax before heading out with your guide on an afternoon game drive.
Head out by foot to explore the Selous Reserve, accompanied by your guide. Observe the small details of the bush: tracking animals by their footprints and watching smaller creatures and their behaviours without the noise and disturbance of a vehicle.
Motor up the Rufiji River to Stiegler Canyon for a riverside breakfast amongst hippos and crocodiles. Return to camp for lunch and an afternoon bush walk to a hidden sundowner spot.
Embark on a walk to a nearby campsite for an unforgettable evening of fly camping. Dust off the day with a shower beneath the open sky and drift asleep to the view of endless twilight from your netted tent.
Go off the beaten path to Ruaha National Park and enjoy the solitude amid one of the most unique and pristine wildernesses in all of Tanzania. Keep your eyes peeled for big game in the area, who are attracted to the abundant river that flows through the park.
Continue to explore the Ruaha with your guide both by foot and 4 x 4. Ruaha boasts an extraordinarily large population of elephant and antelope, so make sure you have your cameras ready.
Following your daily game drive, enjoy evening sundowners with other camp members and share stories about the day’s discoveries.
After a relaxing morning at camp, head back to Dar es Salaam for an afternoon flight to make your international connection back home.
Admire the vast expanse.
Sand River Selous, Rufiji River
Few places offer the freedom and variety that Selous does. The camp has 6 open-plan walk-in Meru tents, with an ensuite bathroom at the rear. With new eco-flush toilets and safari-style bucket showers, as well as a wash-basin with cold running water, and hot water delivered by the camp crew on demand—this is the true safari experience as it was meant to be. Jabali Ridge, Iringa
With views over Ruaha from every corner of the room, guest suites are designed to maximize the stunning landscape beyond. Be it from the bed or desk, every space is a viewpoint and open to nature. Louvered shutters can be opened, blurring the lines between building and nature, or closed for privacy. King beds are found in all rooms. Bathrooms are fully equipped with rain showers and flushing toilets. View hotel website »
I don’t know how B&R does it – the quality of their trips is so consistently high! Just when we think they couldn’t do anything as good as our last trip, they do! Another fantastic experience with B&R.— Carolyn Zaslaw

Daily walking routes range from 2-4 hours long. Paths are not well-worn in some areas and definitely require an adventurous spirit.
