Sometimes your B&R trip simply isn’t long enough! Extend your stay for the best vacation possible. If you wish to spend a few days in region either before or after your official B&R trip, and need assistance making those plans, your B&R Travel Advisor can help. We can create an independent travel experience to fit your needs—and if you desire, arrange for a local guide.
The right number of like-minded travellers to make new friends.
Your dates. Your group. Our expertly-designed itinerary.
Tailored to your interests, a bespoke travel experience.
Combines the hallmarks of any B&R itinerary (excellent hotels and beautiful routes) with the freedom of pacing each day exactly the way you like.
Throughout the day, a knowledgeable local guide provides insider access and expert tips. At night, you can explore and dine on your own.
Our B&R guides are with you throughout, anticipating needs, translating languages, providing advice and—above all—facilitating fun.
We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
Cape Town and Beyond
This South African journey brings you the best of Cape Town, followed by two incredibly intimate safari experiences in the remote northern reserves of South Africa. Begin by hiking the iconic Table Mountain or kayaking with penguins at Boulder’s Beach on the Western Cape. Then, step off the beaten 4×4 track and explore Marakele National Park and Madikwe Game Reserve, where the wildlife viewing is outstanding and the history behind the reserves compelling. If that gets your heart pumping, wait until you see the lodges…

Day by Day
Welcome to South Africa! Upon arrival, a private car will bring you to the luxury hotel you'll call home for the next three nights.
Explore Franschhoek's charms on foot, admiring its galleries and designer boutiques. After an afternoon hike and wine tasting, revel in the old-world architecture in the university town of Stellenbosch.
Traverse Table Mountain's iconic flat-topped peak, learning about the unique flora known as fynbos that blankets the mountain. At the end of your epic hike, you'll be rewarded with lunch and a wine tasting in the Constantia Winelands.
Arrive at the Marataba Trails Lodge, located within the UNESCO-recognized Waterberg Biosphere Reserve. Spend the next three days at your leisure, embarking on guided safari walks, hikes and drives as you please.
The grounds at Marataba are stunning, so when you're not out hiking or tracking elephants, rhino and big cats, you can relax by the outdoor fireplace or cool off in the secluded natural pool.
Spend the morning exploring the incredible nearby hiking trails, then board the Miss Mara for an afternoon boat safari. This evening, enjoy views of the valley at sunset outside the lodge, perhaps with an ice-cold G&T.
Arrive at your next lodge in the Big Five Madikwe Game Reserve—one of South Africa's prime safari locations. Spend the next three days taking advantage of the lodge amenities and, of course, epic wildlife sightings.
Between morning and afternoon game drives, spend your day unwinding in the common lodge. Savour fabulous meals in the breezy dining area or al fresco under starry skies.
Enjoy your final game drive of the trip then cool off in your the picturesque rim-flow pool as you watch the animals roam free around the grounds!
Return to Grand Central Airport and make your way back to O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg for your evening departure home. Safe onward journey!
Hike the famed Table mountaintop.
Cape Cadogan, Cape Town
Charming and historic, this 19th century Georgian and Victorian building has been proclaimed a national monument. Nestled between Table Mountain and the city centre, Cape Cadogan is within easy walking distance of boutique shops, restaurants and bars. Settle in for a game of chess or cards, curl up with a book from the library, or spend an afternoon lounging poolside. View hotel website »
Marataba Trails Lodge, Marakele National Park
Marataba Trails is a Scandi-safari style lodge designed for hikers in search of challenging trails in Big 5 territory. Every detail within the lodge is inspired by nature, meaning the finest natural materials (from timber to cotton sheeting) have been brought together in imaginatively simple ways. Our favourite part? This is an ‘off-the-grid” safari lodge—meaning you’ll finally get the digital detox you deserve. View hotel website »
Jamala Madikwe Lodge, Madikwe Game Reserve
The luxurious villas at Jamala Madikwe Lodge feature gracious rooms with draped four-poster beds and Persian carpets. Each villa boasts its own decadent ensuite, a lounge and dining room leading out to private decks with rim-flow pools and glorious grassland views. Expect an intimate safari experience paired with award-winning cuisine and superb game viewing. View hotel website »
We have taken many B&R trips, and this was one of the best. All hotels, food, scenery and experiences were first-rate, but what pushed the trip to the top of the list were our amazing guides who were there to anticipate our every need.— Virginia Gerst
