Step into Oaxaca when it’s at its most magical: Día de Muertos, when streets glow with colour, music fills the air, and ancient rituals honour the dead. From bustling markets and hands-on cooking workshops to candlelit altars and late-night parades, every day blends active adventure with intimate, immersive encounters—celebrating life, honouring the past, and creating memories that will linger long after the candles burn out.

Participate in Oaxaca’s most iconic celebration, from building an altar with marigolds and Muerteadas with costumes, bands and orchestras.

Pedal through mezcal country, hike mountain trails and explore ancient Zapotec ruins, discovering a side of Mexico most don't venture to.

Meet our local friends who bring their region to life, like textile weavers, mezcal distillers, market guides and our friend who’ll cook us breakfast in their home.

Good to know

No jet lag
If you're travelling from North America, there is little time difference, meaning you can hit the ground running at trip start.

Pre or post trip
If you have extra time, consider extending your trip and stay at one of our favourite beach hotels. Our trip focuses on the country’s rich interior, but a fabulous beach is never far away.

Time of year
October in Oaxaca brings warm weather. Our bikes and hikes are planned in the mornings with cultural activities planned in the afternoons to beat the heat.

Evening events
On this trip, you'll have the option to participate in two late-night events, Atzompa cemetery and the Etla Muerteada. These events start at 9 PM and wrap in the early morning.

Planning
Dia de Muertos is the busiest time to visit Oaxaca City. We recommend booking your flights and pre and post trips well in advance.

Packing
We recommend packing modest clothing to wear during the visit to Atzompa cemetery.
