Day 1

Our journey begins in Tokyo, where we’ll catch a quick flight to Toyama. Here, begin pedalling along quiet roads out of the city, where we’ll pause for lunch at a soba restaurant. Following a meal of local delicacies, continue riding along farm roads to the historic town of Etchu Yatsuo. Tonight, our first dinner will be served in the River Retreat’s fabulous restaurant.

Day 2

Today, our journey takes us toward the magnificent Tateyama Mountain Range. En route, we’ll pause for an exclusive tasting at a sake brewery before exploring the architectural sights of Kengo Kuma over a French Japanese fusion lunch. Choose to continue riding to Nisseki-ji Temple before we regroup for dinner at the hotel.

Day 3

We’re heading deep into the mountains to ride to the UNESCO-listed village of Gokayama, known for its Gassho-style houses. Stop to taste the distinctive regional flavours of Gokayama tofu for lunch before we head to our next hotel, a classic Japanese ryokan.

Day 4

Say goodbye to the mountains and head towards the coast, where we’ll begin pedalling along the “Toyama Cycling Route.” Witness the iconic views of Toyama Bay set against the Tateyama mountains as we pedal toward the Himi Harbour Market. Then, we’re off to a local winery for an eclectic lunch before we head to our next hotel in Kanazawa.

Day 5

We’re off to explore the city of Kanazawa on foot, a castle town that’s home to Kenrokuen, one of Japan’s most beautiful gardens. Wander through the massive garden, then we’ll pause to enjoy a traditional tea ceremony. This evening, we’ll walk to our incredible dinner and if we’re interested, karaoke!

Day 6

Begin the day in the charming hot spring town of Yamanaka Onsen, nestled in the mountains of the Kaga area. We’ll hop on our bikes in front of the town’s public bath and head out on a scenic loop ride. Tonight, our dinner will be prepared by the area’s top chef.

Day 7

Our final ride takes us through sacred mountains and back into town, where we’ll pause for a well-deserved lunch and time to explore the shops in Yumanaka. Choose to walk up the gorge below the town, relax in the onsen, or visit a local woodworking artist. This evening, we’ll dine at one of Yamanaka’s most celebrated fusion restaurants.

After one final breakfast, we’ll take a 2-hour train back to Kyoto station and say our goodbyes.
