Daily walks range between 3 to 11 km (1.85 to 6.85 mi.), on cobbled city streets, grassy terraced hillsides and the winding footpaths of the Inca Trail. We travel through the Sacred Valley at altitudes between 2,100 and 3,700 m (6900 to 12000 ft). Apart from the challenging walk up to Machu Picchu, the trip is moderate. You may find, however, that the altitude requires more effort than at lower elevations. Expect some uneven stairs on our hikes in the ruins as well as some sheer drop offs in places.

Butterfield & Robinson will provide you with a pick-up service from the airport to your hotel upon arrival in Cusco, provided that you send us your flight arrival information well ahead of your scheduled trip date. Following an ancient route, we will pedal the rolling hills of Prosecco from Marostica to Conegliano and onto timeless Venice, where the trip culminates in the famously renowned city of canals. En route, we’ll make a foray into Valdobbiadene and perfectly preserved medieval Bassano del Grappa, the region home to radicchio, asparagus, risotto and tiramisu. In this region, the culinary adventures are as extraordinary as the scenery!

Nowhere does the slowing down feel more apropos than Piemonte, the birthplace of Slow Food, where epicurean delights await around every corner and verdant vineyards abound. We pair our meals with many of the best vintages (on us, natch), then kick back at the intimate and gorgeous La Villa.

Riding in Rioja is a sensory experience. Your eyes won’t believe the vineyard-covered hills of neighbouring Ribera del Duero. Explore Puglia's sun-soaked shores, sophisticated towns and abundant olive groves, then indulge in the cucina rustica after a superb seaside ride.

Our first three days of biking are on rolling coastal and flat interior roads winding through olive groves. Our last two days are along rolling terrain through vineyards and groves. Daily distances range from 46 to 80 km (29 to 50 mi.).

In our second home, sumptuous cuisine, miles of vine-side paths, exclusive access and deep oenological immersion await—as do our expert friends.

The first portion of this trip alternates between relatively flat routes and some hilly rides. Distances range from 27 to 44 km (17 to 27 mi) with options every day, including the Century Ride of 100 km. In general we follow narrow, quiet roads through vineyards, farmland, forests and charming towns. Burgundy has been credited with having the best biking, not just in France, but the world.

We'll drop you off at the Le Creusot-Montceau TGV train station in time for the mid-morning TGV to Paris. There is also a direct TGV to CDG leaving at 6:34 am for anyone looking to fly home internationally.

Most flights to North America from Paris depart in the late morning or early afternoon making it difficult, though not impossible, to make a same-day connection. We therefore recommend staying the night in Paris.

Tilting at windmills? Hardly. See the coast that inspired the Dutch Masters, then taste the culinary magic of the three-star Manoir Inter Scaldes.

After breakfast, your B&R guides will say goodbye to you. They will be happy of course to assist with your further travel plans and help organize transfers to Amsterdam, Bruges, Gent, Antwerp or Brussels.

We bike along truly flat bike paths and quiet country roads. Although the routes are flat, we may encounter headwinds on some days. Average daily distance is 45 km (28 miles).

We'll meet in the lobby of Hotel Pulitzer and take a short drive directly into the heart of the bulb fields, where we’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how the flowers are grown before meeting our bikes. It’s a short easy ride to the main floral attraction: Keukenhof Gardens, where seven million flowers are on display! Please be dressed to ride this morning and bring with you anything you might need for the day (camera, sunglasses, raincoat, etc.) as your luggage will go directly to The Hague. Delve into Dali’s backyard: ride rolling volcanic hills dwarfed by the Pyrenees, explore time-stamped villages and feast on molecular cuisine.

We will arrange onward travel to the train station or the airport. We recommend spending time in this magnificent city either before or after your B&R trip.

The riding is varied with the majority of terrain being rolling hills and flat stretches on quiet country roads. There will be a couple of challenging climbs that can be conquered at your own pace (and perhaps even enjoyed, as they bring us to more amazing vistas!) In order to avoid some of the busier roads, our routes sometimes include unpaved gravel and dirt roads. The days’ distances range from 25 to 52 km (15.5 to 33 mi.), with options for more every day.

There's much to see in Ireland's west—and more to taste than you might think: from frothy Guinness and fresh mussels to tender lamb and wild-caught salmon.

We will drop you off back in Galway, where trains for Dublin and rental cars are available. Note that the time is subject to change, depending upon the train schedule to Dublin. Your guides can also help you to arrange direct transfers to Dublin or Shannon airports.

The terrain is generally rolling, with rare flat sections. That said, the climbs and descents are generally neither long nor steep. Daily distances average around 41 km (25.5 mi.), with several challenging longer options available.

Next-Level Immersion

Start in Bohemian Prague, then ride past vineyards and hilltop monasteries in the splendid Wachau Valley en route to regal Vienna and the Hotel Sacher.

Our trip will conclude at the Hotel Sacher Wien. From there, taxis to the airport can easily be arranged.

The riding in the Czech Republic and Austria offers much variety in landscape. Heading southeast of Prague and through the forested area around Chateau Heralec, we encounter some moderately hilly terrain. The bike paths along the Danube are virtually flat and hassle-free. Long options are also available.

We will meet in the lobby of the Mandarin Oriental. Please be dressed to bike. After an 90-minute drive into the Czech countryside we will begin our first ride of the trip. Go Further

Bustling souks, breathtaking Berber camps, crumbling Kasbahs and camel rides over the silky Sahara: no, this isn't a mirage—it's a dream come true.

The trip will end after breakfast in Marrakech. Your guides can help arrange transportation to the airport, if needed. We recommend staying another day in Marrakech after the trip has finished.

Daily biking distances usually vary from 20 to 50 km (12 to 30 mi.), with options on some days as far as 62 km (40 mi.). The terrain is generally flat, with a few hills along the way when we’re closer to the High Atlas Mountains. The difficulty of the ride often depends on which way the wind is blowing. The walking routes are mostly flat, except for our day in the Atlas Mountains.

Most of the riding on this trip is quite manageable, becoming slightly more challenging on Day 3 when we head westward. However, where the hills are challenging, the B&R van is there to help out weary riders. We do our best to keep the riding on quiet roads. This walking trip covers a variety of terrain that at times is challenging. The landscape can be quite mountainous, so be prepared for plenty of ups and downs. Those with vertigo may find some of the walks uncomfortable. Daily distances average 5 to 8 km, with some options for less (or more) challenging hikes. A number of our walks are on narrow footpaths along mountainsides, while others follow well-surfaced roads. Hiking boots are required on some walks. Please note that van support is limited on this trip due to the inaccessibility of trails by vehicle.

Nature's Way

Experience the Dolomites' remarkable people, diverse and amazing hikes, fabulous hotels and all the spa-time one deserves after a day of invigorating walking in the mountains.

We'll depart at 9:00am for Bolzano train station and also the town centre for anyone staying in Bolzano. The drive takes approximately 1.5-hours and from the train station there are outbound options for travel to Verona, Venice and Milan.

This hiking trip covers a variety of terrain that at times is challenging. Paths are hard-packed dirt trails and daily distances average 5 to 13 km, with some options for less (or more) challenging hikes. Some days will involve short vehicle transfers and while many days include chairlifts and gondolas to assist with ascents and descents, be prepared for plenty of ups and downs. Hiking boots (light to medium weight) with sturdy ankle support and strong grips are highly recommended. Please note that van support is very limited on this trip due to the lack of access vehicles have to the trails.

Venture through Romania and the diverse landscapes of Transylvania, filled with winding countryside, lush forest and nestled in the Southern Carpathian Mountain range.

This morning we will take a 1 hour transfer to Brasov, and then continue to Bucharest together, arriving back to the city centre early afternoon. You can choose to fly out of Brasov or Bucharest, please be sure to let us know your flight details.

The riding in Romania is generally moderate, with sections along valley floors linked by the occasional climb. Limited long options are also available.

Your guides will meet you in the lobby of your pick up hotel this morning to begin your journey into Transylvania. 

This morning we will drive back to Bucharest together, arriving back to the city centre early afternoon. If you have a flight scheduled for this day, please be sure to let us know.

Visit the stunning landscapes of Northern Vietnam as they reveal new wonders at every turn, from the charming streets of Hanoi to the gorgeous back roads of Ninh Binh. 

There will be two transfers to the Hanoi airport.  Please do not book a flight before 2 PM.  The transfer will be happy to continue to downtown Hanoi after the airport drop-off.

The riding varies, with all varieties of uphill and down (and even—VERY occasionally—a hint of flat). Roads are delightfully quiet, although with the occasional short rough patch. Both hybrid and road bikes are perfectly suitable for this trip’s terrain and roads.  If you complete the full option daily rather than taking advantage of van shuttles, the trip would be rated avid: e-bikes are highly recommended for anyone not in love with challenging hill climbs.

In the Valley of Kings, one castle just won't do—which is why we stay at two on this epic ride through history. Oh, and the food? Fit for a king.

Your trip will end at the main train station in St. Pierre des Corps in time for the direct 10:39am train to Paris Montparnasse. Most flights from Paris to North America depart in the late morning or early afternoon; therefore it will be difficult (though not impossible) to fly home that day. We recommend spending at least one night in Paris unless you are disposed to catch an earlier train on your own. Those who need to go to CDG airport can take the 10:54am train arriving at CDG airport at 1:04pm. Those who need to get to the airport earlier than 1pm will have to arrange a separate transfer at their own expense.

Most of the riding on this trip is level with gentle grades, but be aware that the Loire Valley is not flat, there are several longer climbs. The daily distances average 45 km (28 mi.). There are three layover days, which allow for some shorter routes and, for avid cyclists, longer options.

Our average bike ride is 53 km, with the option one day to do a 102 km Century Ride. Our ride in the Entre Deux Mers lets you warm up your legs, as the topography is flat or very gently rolling. The Dordogne’s terrain means that each day involves a few challenging hills—but the climbs and descents are either short or gradual, ranging between 163m and 889m. Most roads are very quiet, with a few busier sections in towns.
