- Difficulty Level
Level 1: Occasional
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain with a few small hills—all very manageable for people trying their first biking trip.
Walking – 6-10 km (4-6 mi.) a day on country lanes, footpaths and coastal or forest trails, all on relatively flat terrain, perhaps with an occasional hill.
Level 2: Recreational
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over terrain that’s relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.
Walking – 8-12 km (5-7 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain, with occasional steeper climbs.
Level 3: Enthusiast
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day in gently rolling countryside, with occasional longer climbs to points that are well worth the effort.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over rolling terrain on a variety of surfaces. Most days, one or two steeper climbs to spectacular viewpoints or places of interest.
Level 4: Avid
Biking – Roughly 50 km (30 mi.) a day in consistently rolling countryside, with repeated climbs and longer options available.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) over terrain that varies between rolling and hilly, with a few steeper climbs.
Level 5: Expert
Biking – 50-60 km (30-45 mi.) a day over both level and tougher, hillier terrain with multiple 100 km (62 mi.) options. The routes are designed for avid cyclists and include plenty of chances to push yourself.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over fairly hilly terrain offering lots of challenges. Routes are along high meadow paths and/or well-maintained cliffside or alpine trails, with a few steep ascents to make you feel invigorated.
The Magic of Old Italy
Tell the kids you’re are going to Puglia and they’ll ask “where-ya?” Tell them you’re going to snorkel in the sparkling Adriatic, make pasta by hand, and zipline over olive groves and they’ll ask a different question: “when-ya!?”
Note: The activities on our Puglia Family Adventure trip are recommended for children age 8 years and older.

Day by Day
Ride past ancient stone villages and prehistoric crypts to Otranto. Kids take a shortcut to the hotel for fun activities while the adults continue biking for incredible views of the Mediterranean!
Kids explore cave-lined shores by kayak, while the parents cycle along to the stunning coast. Tonight, we gather for a hands-on pasta making lesson before sitting down to a fabulous dinner.
Bike past the Alimini Lakes and through the Graecia Salentina, an area famous for charming villages and the local dialect. Wrap up the day in the gorgeous city of Lecce.
Parents set out on a ride to the centre of Ostuni, while the kids test their climbing skills. Find something for everyone at our favourite Beach Club where we end the day with a memorable pizza-making lesson.
Pedal past peaceful olive groves to the sea where you can enjoy water sports with the kids. Tonight, see the "City of trulli" then indulge at dinner in the aromatic garden of an organic restaurant.
Enjoy a farewell breakfast at the hotel, then we say arrivederci in Bari.
Family trips that hit the bulls-eye
Palazzo de Noha, Lecce
Sitting in the centre of Baroque Lecce, Palazzo de Noha is an intimate hotel filled with the fine, eclectic acquisitions of two art-collector friends. The nine guestrooms represent the historical heritage of the area while also aligning with contemporary design. A rooftop terrace, pool and tended garden offer privacy and exceptional views of the city.
Masseria Torre Coccaro, Savelletri di Fasano
While much of Italy is about small intimacies of places, the Adriatic lends itself to sweeping views and wide open spaces, especially here at one of Italy’s most beautiful beach hotels. Stretch out and breathe in the natural beauty, whether reclined on the beach, dining on delicious regional cuisine on the terrace, relaxing in the grotto-style spa or retiring to the quiet of your room.
Masseria Montelauro, Otranto
Located just outside of Otranto, this recently restored masseria incorporates styles from around the Mediterranean. The main building is an old original fortified farmhouse, while the furnishings are an appealing blend of Moroccan and Italian. The hotel is family owned, and we are bound to feel like guests in a southern Italian home, where hospitality is paramount.
We chose Puglia for all the reasons B&R promoted it--the biking, the food and wine, the hospitality of the people, the fascinating culture, and history; the experience exceeded our expectations in every way.— Peggy Mandell
Cycling must be the most rewarding way to see Italy. The mix of fresh air, exercise, decadent meals and breathtaking countryside is unbeatable.Luxury Travel Magazine
