Walking – 6-10 km (4-6 mi.) a day on country lanes, footpaths and coastal or forest trails, all on relatively flat terrain, perhaps with an occasional hill.
Level 2: Recreational
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over terrain that’s relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.
Walking – 8-12 km (5-7 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain, with occasional steeper climbs.
Level 3: Enthusiast
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day in gently rolling countryside, with occasional longer climbs to points that are well worth the effort.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over rolling terrain on a variety of surfaces. Most days, one or two steeper climbs to spectacular viewpoints or places of interest.
Level 4: Avid
Biking – Roughly 50 km (30 mi.) a day in consistently rolling countryside, with repeated climbs and longer options available.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) over terrain that varies between rolling and hilly, with a few steeper climbs.
Level 5: Expert

Cycling in Northern Fjordland
Between gorgeous, deep fjords, cascading waterfalls and mountain peaks often compared to the spires of churches, Norway has a strong handle on elemental drama and diversity. Travelling between the small fishing town of Alesund and the cliffs of Storfjord, we embark on fjord-side rides, dine on local organic food (picture garden lunches and fresh-caught fish) and pass the time with our local friends as they share Norweigan tales and show us around their breathtaking country.

Day by Day
We start our first ride of the week in the lovely town of Alesund and venture out further to explore the fjords. After lunch, we jump on a zodiac boat for a wildlife safari, exploring the coastline and the open sea.
Enjoy an early kayak paddle on the Aalesund Canal before we hop on our bikes to pedal along the fjords. We pause for lunch in the Sunnmore Alps before taking on the spectacular Queen’s Route.
Our morning ride will take us across the Hjørundfjord Fjord—a breathtaking section of the larger Storfjord. Lunch will be in the garden of a local restaurant, while gorgeous views backdrop our meal.
A short drive brings us to our private boat for a cruise through the majestic Geiranger fjord. This afternoon offers the most challenging ride of the trip on The Eagle Road.
We’ll go for one final spin through the spectacular fjords on a relaxed and mostly flat ride. For lunch, we meet with our local friend Anniken who will host us to lunch in her home.
Following breakfast at the hotel, we’ll drop you off at 7:00 am at Vigra airport in Alesund, from where you can fly to Oslo, Amsterdam or Bergen. So long!
Experience Norway’s elemental monuments.
