We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
Northern California combines rolling landscapes of tidy vineyards with backdrops of golden hillocks, making it a great place for bikers! On one of our Napa bike tours, in Napa and Sonoma counties, you’re likely to find a Mom and Pop winery next to a world-famous appellation, an antique-stuffed country store kitty-corner to a world-class hotel. Scenic bike routes wind through small towns and meandering walking trails exist only a few hours from bustling San Francisco. Even better, the population density drops noticeably as soon as one reaches the outer limits of Healdsburg.

While most of the riding is relatively easy, expect to contend with the occasional challenging climb. The advantage of a private trip is that you can move at your own pace, choosing to ride the regular distance or extend if more miles are desired
