We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
Dramatic landscapes & mighty wildlife
Safari is the Swahili word for ‘journey’ and Kenya evokes nostalgia for the earliest origins of the African safari. Romance and excitement are plentiful here, with Africa’s mightiest wildlife roaming free and a rich tribal culture embedded in the land. The dramatic landscapes frame your adventure, beginning in Nairobi and exploring the Chyulu Hills, the Mathews Mountains and beyond. You’ll witness tribal rituals, explore Big Five territory, hike along ancient elephant routes and stay in some of the greatest luxury wilderness camps Kenya has to offer. Caution: once you’ve spent your first night under the stars, you may never want to go home.

Day by Day
Arrive at your luxury accommodation in Nairobi and unwind, exploring the nearby shops and museums. Your safari adventure begins tomorrow!
Board your flight to the exclusive Ol Donyo Lodge, perched on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills. The Hills house over 7,000 animal species and offer spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro—an afternoon game drive is the perfect introduction.
The choice is yours today: set out on a guided bushwalk, visit the nearby lava tubes, or take your bike out in search of wildlife. This afternoon, get to know the faces behind a local organization working to end poaching in Kenya.
Arrive at your next camp in the pristine Namunyak Conservancy. Spend the next two days exploring the area (and its four-legged residents) on game drives and guided bush walks—the daily Singing Well rituals are a must-see during dry season!
Those seeking a challenge may opt for a daylong trek to the top of picturesque Mount Ololokwe—the views are certainly worth it. Or, keen animal lovers can pay a visit to the nearby elephant rehabilitation centre.
Continue your journey to the Borana Conservancy, home to some of the highest populations of endangered species in Kenya. Again, the activities are endless—hiking, biking, horseback riding, game drives, take your pick.
Borana is a Big Five destination, so prepare for sightings as you explore the area further—hike along ancient elephant trails or visit the stunning blue pools and waterfalls of the Ngare Ndare Forest.
Get an inside look at the anti-poaching efforts currently underway in Borana. Then, spend the afternoon lounging by the pool (and soaking in the incredible mountain views).
Board your private charter back to Nairobi, where you'll spend the day exploring the local boutiques and elephant orphanage. This evening, you'll be driven to the airport for your onward journey. Farewell!
One Forty Eight, Nairobi
Originally built as a private home, this boutique hotel displays the previous owner’s collection of artwork—in fact, the suites have been converted from what was once the onsite art studio. The hotel itself spares no modern convenience; delicious food and wine, beautifully appointed rooms and first class service make for a comfortable stay alongside the boutique designer shops and amazing restaurants, museums and wildlife. Ol Donyo Lodge, Chyulu Hills
Nestled amongst the thorny arms of acacia trees the thatched-roof suites at Ol Donyo all include a private veranda, indoor and outdoor showers, and flush toilets. A sure highlight is the rooftop star-beds; accessible from the veranda using a winding stone staircase, they offer breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the starry sky above. Sarara Camp, Nairobi
Shaded by the acacia trees typical of Nairobi, the luxurious tented suites at Sarara Camp boast verandas perfect for savouring your morning tea. The romantic decor combines an earthy simplicity and 1920’s safari Africa, featuring high ceilings, airy common rooms, heavy wooden trunks and Persian carpets. Dining is flexible and often served on the terrace (or at times, someplace a little wilder!). View hotel website »
Borana Lodge, Laikipia County
As one of East Africa’s original luxury safari experiences, Borana is an eco-lodge constructed with the environment in mind. Its secluded cottages are built around the contours of the hills, creating a natural haven of rock forged walls and ranch wood furniture. The activity on this trip is easygoing, however a sense of adventure is necessary.
