We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
The Dolomites’ stunning peaks have drawn foreign mountaineers for centuries, yet somehow they remain one of Italy’s best-kept secrets. On this trip, you explore two gorgeous corners of the incredible Dolomites mountain region: the Alpe di Siusi and the Alta Badia. The Alpe di Siusi is a plateau surrounded by the South Tyrolean Dolomites above the charming villages of Siusi allo Sciliar and Castelrotto. The Alta Badia, tucked deeper into the mountain zone, is equally majestic and full of irresistible charm. Be ready to experience the area’s remarkable people, diverse and amazing hikes, fabulous hotels and all the spa-time one deserves after a day of invigorating walking in the mountains.

Day by Day
Begin with a warm-up hike and overnight stay set in Europe’s highest alpine meadow – we don’t stay in the valley, we explore, dine and rest in the premium setting atop the Alpe di Siusi.
Awakening to the winter equivalent of ‘ski-in/ski-out,’ our hike commences with a chairlift ride up to a remarkable alpine ridge featuring vistas of the Fassa and Duron valleys. Refuel midday at a mountain hut favoured by locals. Expect to be charmed and delighted over a special dinner and its remarkable setting.
Hike to Selva and hop on a gondola to the top of the Gardena Pass, where you'll hike beneath the dramatic Cir peaks. Tonight, gain insights into the Alta Badia’s earlier days with a glass of the South Tyrol’s crisp white wine in hand and a visit lead by our hosts for the evening.
Hike from Corvara to San Cassiano, via the breathtaking plateau of Pralungià. Witness your chef prepping an al fresco risotto and tap your feet to the musicians accompanying lunch in a generations-old private cabin.
Explore and hike the Cinque Torri, set at the heart of WWI battle lines. Your guides will help identify the galleries and outposts dating back to the war in this unique open-air museum. Tonight, enjoy an aperitif and Michelin-starred meal at St. Hubertus with Chef Norbert himself.
Wake early for a vigorous hike or savour your final cappuccino on the breakfast terrace before bidding farewell to the Rosa Alpina as we set off for Venice airport.
Alpina Dolomites, Compatsch
Located on Europe’s most beautiful and expansive high-altitude plateau, the Alpina Dolomites offers a perfect position to access hikes, take in spectacular views and be positively pampered in its fabulous spa. View hotel website »
Hotel La Perla, Dolomites
This property is a B&R favourite. Run by Signor Costa, his wife and their three sons, it weds the characteristics and façade of an Austrian hotel with the warmth of Italy. Signora Costa’s personal touches enhance every room. View hotel website »
Rosa Alpina, San Cassiano
Rosa Alpina has earned its Relais & Châteaux and Michelin accolades, but what we love most about this understated retreat is its warm hospitality. Hugo Pizzinini welcomes us to the family as soon as we cross the threshold, while Chef Norbert invites us into his kitchen as he prepares dinner. View hotel website »
This was truly the best vacation of my life. Each day’s activity was varied, fun and unlike anything I had ever experienced before!— Gian Piero Garda
We never wanted to be the biggest travel company in the world, just the best.
— George Butterfield
This hiking trip covers a variety of terrain that at times is challenging. Paths are hard packed dirt trails with a mix of ascents and descents (some days will involve short transfers and many have chairlifts and gondolas to assist with ascents and descents). Daily distances average 5 to 12 km, with some options for less (or more) challenging hikes. Hiking boots (light to medium weight) with sturdy ankle support and strong grips are highly recommended. Please note that van support is limited on this trip due to the lack of access vehicles have to the trails.
“I enjoy going for a good walk and can even handle an incline or two.”
Relatively flat, with occasional steeper climbs.Read more on our Activity Levels
