Level 1: Occasional
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain with a few small hills—all very manageable for people trying their first biking trip.
Walking – 6-10 km (4-6 mi.) a day on country lanes, footpaths and coastal or forest trails, all on relatively flat terrain, perhaps with an occasional hill.
Level 2: Recreational
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day over terrain that’s relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.
Walking – 8-12 km (5-7 mi.) a day over relatively flat terrain, with occasional steeper climbs.
Level 3: Enthusiast
Biking – 40-50 km (25-30 mi.) a day in gently rolling countryside, with occasional longer climbs to points that are well worth the effort.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over rolling terrain on a variety of surfaces. Most days, one or two steeper climbs to spectacular viewpoints or places of interest.
Level 4: Avid
Biking – Roughly 50 km (30 mi.) a day in consistently rolling countryside, with repeated climbs and longer options available.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) over terrain that varies between rolling and hilly, with a few steeper climbs.
Level 5: Expert
Biking – 50-60 km (30-45 mi.) a day over both level and tougher, hillier terrain with multiple 100 km (62 mi.) options. The routes are designed for avid cyclists and include plenty of chances to push yourself.
Walking – 11-15 km (7-10 mi.) a day over fairly hilly terrain offering lots of challenges. Routes are along high meadow paths and/or well-maintained cliffside or alpine trails, with a few steep ascents to make you feel invigorated.
Island hopping by luxury yacht
The Dalmatian Coast is meant to be experienced by sea. While others hop from hotel to hotel, we unpack once—aboard the region’s top luxury yacht, no less. With only six cabins, the M/Y Dalmatino is the ideal vessel for cruising up to sun-drenched islands, hushed inlets and secluded beaches. Daily off-ship adventures, by bike and foot, see us exploring scenic coastal roads, diving deep into historic towns with local experts and clinking glasses with our wine-making friends.

Day by Day
Pedal inland across the Ljuta River, admiring the hilltop churches that preside over the agricultural patchwork. We then roll down through vineyards to Cilipi, from where it’s a short hop to our yacht.
In the Mljet National Park, we pedal the length of the island, tackling the route's forested dips and rolls. After lunch, enjoy a leisurely swim before we visit the island’s Benedictine monastery.
We head to Mali Ston and board a small boat that brings us to the oyster farms in the bay. After a tasting paired with the local Posip wine, we venture to the start of our ride at Zjuljana for a pedal along the coast.
Set off on a beautiful route that takes us across Korcula island’s remote interior to Brna. Roll past vineyards, orchards and small villages as we make our way to the sea and a tasting at our friend Frano's winery.
Wake up on the island of Vis, from where we ride to Komiza along a beautiful coastal route with views over cliffs and forgotten villages. Enjoy dinner this evening at a seafood spot set in a former botanical garden.
Take on a scenic road through the lavender fields of the green island of Hvar. We travel through UNESCO-protected agricultural plains until we arrive in the coastal town of Jelsa for lunch.
Our final day begins on the island of Solta. We start our ride in Stomorska, in the island’s oldest settlement, pausing en route for lunch at our friend Iko’s, who will serve us farm-to-table fare amid stunning views.
This morning the boat travels to the city of Split, where we disembark at the central port. Airport shuttles are available to travellers not staying in the city of Diocletian for a night or two.
An exclusive experience in Dalmatia.
M/Y Dalmatino, Croatia
The Dalmatino is owned by a seafaring Croatian family and was completed in 2019. With six spacious cabins, it's the perfect vessel for small-group journeys. Guests will find on board a sauna, a Jacuzzi on the sundeck and a swim platform with two deck showers. The Dalmatino is fully air-conditioned, equipped with the latest navigational and safety technology and professionally handled by a crew of eight.
The relationships our guides had with the local resources provided many spontaneous and unique moments that we would laugh about for days.—Gregg Kelly
The boat and its captain and crew were perfect! Chef was great! Felt totally safe in the Captain's care. Outside meals were delicious, fresh and wonderful.—Kathie Gordon
The dramatic topography of the Dalmatian Islands that makes them spectacular to look at also makes them hilly to bike. With the exception of the first day, every day has at least one climb, and most days have several. We have sought to limit the daily distances as much as possible, with long options for the more avid riders. The majority of the riding is in the morning and early afternoon, in order to beat the high heat of the region.
