We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
Where nature is steeped in history
Found between the trade routes of Europe and Asia, Bulgaria has long been a crossroad of cultures—a fusion Eastern Orthodox tradition, Byzantine art, Ottoman architecture and ever-present Pagan practices. This diversity is found in its landscape, too: a patchwork of farmland, alpine peaks, curious caves and rock formations that skirt the horizon. We immerse you in the local culture as we venture across unspoiled terrain, indulge in the region’s cuisine and pedal between misty mountains and ancient ruins.

Day by Day
We start with a ride through the centuries-old oak forest of the Sredna Gora mountain range. In the town of Koprivshtica, we stop by our friends’ 19thC Ottoman home before lunch at a Dervish monastery.
We head to the central part of Sashtinska Sredna Gora to cycle a hilly road to Svezhen where we visit with the village mayor. We then venture to Karlovo to dine in a typical Ottoman garden amid the Rose Valley.
Today's ride begins from the Kuklenski Monastery deep in a mountain forest. Lunch is at a tavern serving only locally sourced fare, then in Shiroka Laka, we discover Bulgaria's bagpipe tradition.
Travel along the meandering roads of the Rhodopes, pausing for a picnic lunch overlooking the valley. We return to Gela for a cooking workshop where we learn how to make regional delicacies.
We check out the Dospat Reservoir with its diverse flora and fauna. After, we continue to Bulgaria’s top wine region in Melnik for a sampling of exquisite wine and organic products from our Estate’s ecofarm.
Explore the area surrounding Melnik on a bike ride starting from our hotel. We pedal along the wine fields and farmlands before returning for a tour of the town and the nearby Rozhen Monastery.
We depart Melnik for Sofia, visiting the Rila Monastery along the way. Then, we hop on our bikes for a ride through the Rila Mountains, pausing at the river’s edge for fresh mountain trout before continuing to the capital.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken to the International Airport in Sofia for your onward travels. So long!
Spin through spectacular scenes.
