We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.

Cycling through the vineyards of the Médoc we will enter an 18thC reality. The manicured vineyards slope down to the river’s edge and confirm the fact that this trade is as manual as ever. The fabulous châteaux—not castles, but fantasy mansions used as weekend homes for merchants and princes—dominate the landscape, just as these legendary labels have dominated the world’s wine markets. As we crisscross the right and left bank of the Garonne River and Gironde Estuary, we slowly make ourselves at home in the Bordelais and its famed vineyards.
