Overview

In Cusco, 47.5% of children do not attend school. It’s the region in Peru that has the highest number of children without education. And in rural areas like Urubamba, 16% of children do not receive adequate education because many schools are limited to primary-level instruction. The Sol y Luna Foundation provides education for children of all ages in Peru’s Sacred Valley, as well as health care, meals, psychological support and education opportunities for their parents. B&R has provided a $5,000 contribution to the foundation to support this essential work.

How We Support

Over 90% of Sol y Luna’s students receive full or partial scholarships for their education because they come from families with minimal financial resources. B&R, through the Slow Fund’s Education and Equity pillar, is sponsoring the full tuition for one student in the 2025 academic year. This funding will directly impact, uplift and educate an underserved child in Peru’s Sacred Valley.

Impact Beyond Education

Along with classroom instruction, B&R’s sponsorship includes supporting the student by ensuring expenses for school supplies and books as well as clothing and shoes are covered, and that the child has access to health and dental care.

A Foundation for Post-Secondary Success

Graduates of Sol y Luna are supported in their post-secondary education endeavours in a number of ways—through entrance exams, fees and accommodations while at university, and job searches.

Support for all Community Members

Sol y Luna also has dedicated educational resources for children with disabilities. Called Paqari, this centre also offers rehabilitation services, mental health counselling and emotional support of their families.
