Open-air Luxury in the Selous
Overlooking a wide curve in the Rufiji River, Sand Rivers Selous is truly grounded in its love of the wilderness. Deservedly, the lodge has been lauded as the “Most Down to Earth but Luxurious Lodge” by The Luxury Safari Co. Encased in the Selous Game Reserve, all accommodations have panoramic views of the open plains and the endless horizon of the Selous. The main mess—when not doling out delightful local dishes—is the epicenter for furtive discussion about daily sightings and the ideal place to put up your feet and simply enjoy the terroir of the African bush.Spectacular Stays

Sand Rivers Selous Camp
Most Memorable Moment? Being so close to the hippos on the boat cruise as they take a mudbath is an amazing experience (the crocodiles are fascinating as well!).
It's great fun hearing all the experiences of the day from the other guests and what they saw in the Selous Game Reserve. The drivers do their best to make your game drives special. Their knowledge of the local flora and fauna is incredible!
How to Get There
Arriving to Sand Rivers is best by air. Numerous daily flights arrive at the Kiba airstrip (a 15-minute drive from camp) via Dar es Salaam, Ruaha, Zanzibar and northern Tanzania. We’d be happy to assist you in planning your flight details.
Activities & Amenities
When not staring down the glory of a sunset, you’ll likely want to take advantage of the numerous ways to track the big animals that roam this reserve. Guides will be sure to bring your attention to the smaller details too—tiny critters and bizarre flora that comprise the resilient beauty of the African bush. Fly camping is a highlight in this remote location.

Sand Rivers comprises eight luxury cottages: five Riverside rooms and three Hillside suites. Each spacious cottage is constructed of thatch and stone and is graced with an en suite bathroom. Open-fronted rooms mean views of the river, and beyond, are unobstructed. The openness of the rooms is often for the more adventurous—but it’s considered one of the best ways to experience the bush.
Riverside RoomsFrom USD$1,070 per person, per night
Riverside rooms are on the riverbank and gaze directly onto the meandering river. Massive wooden four-poster beds are impressive and adorned with netting. All rooms have hot and cold running water, flush toilets and powerful showers.
Hillside SuitesFrom USD$1,070 per person, per night
Hillside suites include all the comforts of the Riverside room but take it a step further with the addition of a large living space and a small plunge pool. As well, suites are located a little higher on the hill where the view is truly expansive.
