Experience Designer <a href="https://www.butterfield.com/meet-the-designers/christine-tucker">Christine Tucker</a>, who designed this off-the-beaten-path journey, shares her thoughts on what makes Namibia so special and what you can expect from this Limited Edition trip.&nbsp;Why are you excited to help people explore Namibia?&nbsp;Africa is such a rich, diverse, incredible continent that goes well beyond wildlife. This trip showcases the diversity of Africa and all the different things you can do; how rich the different cultures are and the different people who live there.&nbsp;What does Namibia do best?&nbsp;It’s a visual place, and a quiet place. The nights are so quiet, the sky is so dark, and the reds are so red—you’ve probably never seen so many shades of brown and red before. It really is the kind of place where you can feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. For those of us who can never get the opportunity to go to Mars, it's your chance to feel like you're on a different planet.&nbsp;

What kind of traveller is this trip best suited for?&nbsp;If you’re not afraid of getting dusty and dirty, you’ll love this trip. It's for anyone who's after something different, and who loves admiring beautiful landscapes and really soaking that in with all your senses. This is an expedition trip that really takes advantage of all the scenery. There are some days when we'll go out in jeeps to explore sand dunes or take an excursion to see the desert-adapted elephants. And if you appreciate the small things, like teeny, tiny plants, you’ll love this trip. How in the world is that flower living out here? This is a trip for people who appreciate the details.&nbsp;Are there any things you’re especially excited for travellers to experience on this trip?&nbsp;We’re going to meet and spend some time with the Himba people, semi-nomadic people who live in the north of the country. It’s a really special opportunity to get to know the community and experience some of their traditions. &nbsp;We’ll also be doing a lot of fly in-fly out on this trip, but on the day we transfer from Onduli Rdige to Hoanib Valley Camp we’re going to hit the road and drive to really get a sense of the landscape. It is an expedition after all! This gives travellers the opportunity to make spontaneous stops, stretch their legs, and have a serendipitous meeting with someone on the side of the road—things that just aren’t possible travelling by plane.&nbsp;&nbsp;Speaking of accommodations, the camps look so unique, not just their settings, but the buildings themselves.&nbsp;There’s a really exciting experience our travellers will be about to have at Onduli Ridge. So much of what happens in Namibia happens in the sky. Because it's so dark the night sky is incredible. At this camp, you can have an astronomy night right from your room. Travellers can ask for their beds to be placed on their private decks. You’ll have an unobstructed view of the night sky and sleep very comfortably under the stars.&nbsp;
