B&R Guides

At Butterfield & Robinson we are always seeking new faces to fill the multi-faceted role of a B&R Guide. The word “guide” doesn’t really do justice to the dynamic über-travellers at the helm of our trips around the world.

B&R guides are an exceptional group. They are architects, lawyers, musicians, athletes, art historians, teachers, students, chefs, writers… all taking a few months (or years!) from their careers to share their love of travel. We believe that the best guides are people who bring with them a great attitude: a passion for the region or country in which they are guiding, lots of energy, character, charisma, confidence and creativity.

Our guides possess a drive for perfection, curiosity about the world (and that which lies upon it), a youthful attitude, energy, exuberance and desire for fun. These ideas remain at the root of how a guide moves, thinks and acts. Our guides manage every moment of our trips with these goals in mind. They are restless in the pursuit of their desire to create great experiences for our travellers because they love it. When they are on the road with our suppliers and travellers, they do it all. They are exceptional hosts, leaders, performers, promoters, managers, interpreters, mechanics, coaches, connoisseurs, and overall great travel companions.

B&R guides love to travel and love to share travel with others. They bring a unique set of skills that bring special value to the trips they guide. They have charisma and confidence that they share with our travellers and their colleagues. It reveals itself in the way they interact with people, the way they problem solve, the way they strive for excellence in many aspects of their lives.

Ideal candidates are:

  • Detail oriented
  • Confident
  • Creative
  • Athletic
  • Outdoor enthusiasts
  • Seasoned travellers
  • Problem solvers
  • Outgoing
  • Personable
  • Quick thinkers
  • Avid bikers
  • Experienced in the service industry

All B&R guides must also meet these required skills and qualifications in order to be considered for our team:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid passport
  • Strong physical condition
  • Speak other languages fluently, in particular French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German
  • Ability to drive a standard transmission vehicle
  • Valid first aid/CPR certification
  • Good knowledge of bicycle mechanics

Interested applicants may submit a résumé, along with a note telling us more about you, your travels, accomplishments and other relevant experience, and why you think you’d make a great B&R Guide, to employment@butterfield.com

Although our search for world-class guides is ongoing, we conduct most of our recruiting during the winter and early spring as we prepare for the upcoming season. To be considered for a position as a guide, applicants must be available for work and travel during our entire European season, which runs May to October inclusive. We thank all applicants for their interest in B&R, but only those candidates with the required skills and qualifications noted here will be contacted for an interview.
