We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
The treasures of The Veneto
Shakespeare showed us that Verona is for lovers; we’ll show you it’s for cyclists, too! And as we pedal past the azure waters of Lake Garda, medieval villages, and fields of vineyards, we’ll quickly discover this corner of Italy is equally for nature-lovers, history-buffs, and gastronomes. Over our six days together, we’ll call stately villas our home, become increasingly partial to Soave and Prosecco, and like a piece of ciabatta to our olive oil, soak up every mouth-watering experience in this breadbasket of Italy.

Day by Day
Put fair Verona to your back on our first ride along a flat bike path by the Adige River and into the countryside beyond, overseeing the valley from Bussolengo's scenic balcony.
Begin today’s ride straight from the hotel as we pass through Pastrengo along the ridgeline to reach Cavaion Veronese, a small fortified town and probably the best viewpoint over Lake Garda. Then, it's straight toward the blue lake and the little town of Bardolino.
Bid farewell to our stately vineyard villa for the short drive to Isola della Scala, a small town tucked between the Po and Adige rivers. We’ll continue towards our lunch destination, Soave, the medieval town that lends its name to the crisp sub-alpine white wine.
Cycle the open countryside to the south, where a glorious network of quiet, beautifully paved country roads lead to the walled town of Montagnana. Enjoy lunch al fresco in the handsome main square; be sure to try the local prosciutto, a delicious variation on its more famous cousin from Parma.
Today, we will ride only in the morning, our final route culminating along the Bacchiglione River. By early afternoon one final villa awaits—our hotel along the Riviera del Brenta, where Venetian nobility summered. We’ll gather for celebratory Prosecco and dinner to cap off our week in the Veneto.
After breakfast at the hotel, we say our farewells to each other and perhaps to Northern Italy. The short drive to Venice, about 20 minutes, will conveniently set up ongoing air or rail travel, or a few nights’ stay.
Welcome to the Veneto.
Villa Cordevigo, Cavaion Veronese
Set amid its own proprietary vineyards, this five-star hotel is a Renaissance villa converted into an exquisite hotel. The tranquil grounds allow ample space for relaxation, particularly by the vineyard-view pool. Giuseppe D’Aquino, the hotel's talented chef, prepares innovative spins on Mediterranean classics to accompany our sublime surroundings. View hotel website »
La Barchessa di Villa Pisani Bonetti, Bagnolo di Lonigo
It’s not often that you get to sleep in a piece of history. This 17-room property, built expertly into a former outbuilding of a Palladian villa, affords just that opportunity, as B&R is the only travel company to enjoy a stay here. The outdoor swimming pool is the perfect place to refresh at the end of the day. View hotel website »
Villa Franceschi, Mira Porte
This Relais & Chateaux property sits elegantly along the Brenta River canal, for centuries the mainland retreat of Venice’s patrician families. Our rooms fully occupy the stately main villa, making the historic structure pretty much our own for our stay. Final night dinner in the Margherita room will feature the best of regional and seasonal fare. View hotel website »
For me it was the guides, Eve and Luca, that really made the trip outstanding. Everything was wonderful - the food, the hotels, the cycling - but the graciousness both Luca and Eve demonstrated and their incredible knowledge of and enthusiasm for the history, architecture and culture of the areas we visited was incredible.—Peggi Peacock
We never wanted to be the biggest travel company in the world, just the best.

The routes on our Verona to Venice trip are for the most part flat. That said, there is a hill or two along the way some days, and daily routes are easily expanded (by 30-50 km) for those looking for more of a challenge, or easily shortened by hopping into our ever-present support van or the numerous organized local transfers. Our routes follow quiet country roads and some dedicated bike paths, although short sections of slightly heavier traffic may be encountered leaving towns.
“I’m in relatively good shape but I haven’t been on a bike since my last B&R trip.”
Relatively flat terrain with a few small hills—all very manageable for people trying their first biking trip.Read more on our Activity Levels
