We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.

We’ve combined traditional safari game drives with exciting nature walks (rather than ‘standard’ driving-only safaris), allowing you far more time and access to up-close, intimate wildlife encounters. Here, we make our way across the timeless landscape of rolling hills, expansive plains and massive volcanoes. There are plenty of opportunities to spot the endangered black rhino, bull elephants, and the majesty of migrating wildebeest along the way. Day by Day
Arrive at Rivertrees Country Inn, unwind and prepare for the adventures that lay ahead! Dinner will be served at the inn this evening.
Fly to Tarangire National Park and game-drive your way to your first lodge. Keep your camera ready—Tarangire hosts approximately one elephant per kilometre (the park is 2,500 square kilometres!). Spend the next two days exploring the area.
Today’s walking safari brings you face-to-face with elephant, giraffe, buffalo and even lions. Tonight, we've got a special nighttime game drive planned (fingers crossed for a leopard sighting!)
Head toward your next lodge on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, passing picturesque villages along the Great Rift Valley. Settle in at camp and then head out to explore your surroundings on a guided nature walk.
Descend into the depths of the Ngorongoro Crater in search of black rhinos and massive bull elephants. Lions are also plentiful here, as are hyenas—oh, and the photo opportunities are fantastic!
Fly to the Serengeti; Tanzania's oldest national park, famed for its annual migration. You'll spend your time here taking advantage of the lodge, getting to know the local flora on guided nature walks and spying animals on twice-daily game drives.
Follow the migrating wildebeest as they pass through the Grumeti River and the Northern Serengeti. Fact: wildebeest are one of the most important species in the Serengeti ecosystem.
Rise for an early morning game drive and then unwind back at camp in the afternoon. Or, you may choose to join your guide for an exciting nature walk after lunch.
Following breakfast, depart camp and board your flight from the Serengeti back to Arusha for your connecting flights home.
Heed the call of the wild.
Rivertrees Country Inn, Makumira
Rivertrees is a charming country estate that once functioned as a working coffee farm. The property retains the nostalgic air of a well-loved homestead; rustic cottages dot the riverbank and appear in the thickets of the tall trees, while birdsong fills the air. Set in the heart of an area rich in nature reserves, montane forests and vibrant village culture, the scope for exploration is endless. View hotel website »
Kuro Tarangire, Tarangire
Kuro Tarangire is set amid a grove of acacia and kigelia trees on the banks of the Tarangire River—often a dry, sandy course snaking through this quiet area of the park. The region sees the rhythmic movement of wildlife as it traverses the park from the hills in the west to the swamps on the eastern side, and between the north and the south along the river line. This makes it an exciting place to be stationed! View hotel website »
Ngorongoro Entamanu, Ngorongoro
Perched high on the wild side of the Ngorongoro Crater rim, Nomad’s Entamanu Ngorongoro is a thoughtfully designed refuge in this elemental place. There is nothing tame about this location—the high altitude sun and the wind can be biting. Not to worry though, the camp makes the most of the extraordinary view while providing shelter from the elements (fun fact: it’s entirely removable!). View hotel website »
Serengeti Safari Camp, Serengeti
Serengeti Safari Camp is about great company and relaxed comfort. It was designed with a purpose in mind; to provide the best possible location to view the wildebeest migration as it covers hundreds of miles of the Serengeti National Park each year. With just 6 open-plan, walk-in Meru-style tents including en-suite bathrooms, you’re guaranteed an authentic experience. View hotel website »
The editors at Travel + Leisure recommend a fantastic nighttime game drive in Tarangire National Park. Get to know the nocturnal world of Tanzania—if you’re lucky, you may even spot the elusive leopard!T+L EDITOR’S ACTIVITY PICK
I don’t know how B&R does it – the quality of their trips is so consistently high! Just when we think they couldn’t do anything as good as our last trip, they do! Another fantastic experience with B&R.— Carolyn Zaslaw
