We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”

Day by Day
We'll kick off our travels with a Champagne toast aboard the S.S. Joie de Vivre before a tour through Paris in vintage Citroen 2CVs. After, we’ll return to the ship for dinner as it sets sail toward La Roche Guyon.
Our first ride leads us to Giverny, where we'll visit the former home and immaculate gardens of Claude Monet. Then, we'll enjoy lunch at a traditional farm and get our first taste of the local cider — a classic Normand drink!
Awake in Rouen and begin today's ride in Jumièges, whose abbey is said to be “the most beautiful ruin in France”. We'll pedal down the river past postcard-worthy villages to lunch at Les Gastronomes.
Today we'll head to the Natural Park of the Marais Vernier, the entryway to the flatlands of Honfleur. In Honfleur, enjoy free time for on-foot exploration in one of the most painted villages in France.
From Lyons-la-Fôret, we'll pedal through the Lyons forest before a breathtaking downhill into Rouen. Our expert local guide will show us around town and lead the way to the Gothic Rouen cathedral.
We'll travel along an evolving landscape of renaissance castles, green agricultural fields and the London to Paris bike path in the National Natural Park of Vexin before our ship sets sail back to Paris.
After breakfast, we’ll explore the French capital by bike! Once we've built up our appetites, we'll take part in a cooking class to learn more about French cuisine.
After a final breakfast on the water, we’ll say bon voyage. An extra night in Paris is well worth it, but if you need to depart, a drive to Paris-Charles de Gaulle, organized by our ship, will be readily available.
The best of la Seine.
Uniworld's S.S. Joie de Vivre
The S.S. Joie de Vivre is essentially a floating representation of all things Parisian: a glitzy supper club that doubles as an intimate cinema; an open-kitchen haute cuisine experience; a sidewalk-café-style Bistrot; and an extensive spa and wellness centre. These unique elements complement Uniworld’s usual hallmarks of tasteful design, original artwork, and wonderful staff. View ship website »
Our guides were without question the best part of the trip. They were knowledgeable and made us feel safe at all times. They cemented our own team/one big family culture. They were a lot of fun!—Candy Wainwright
We never wanted to be the biggest travel company in the world, just the best.
— George Butterfield
Most of the riding on this trip is flat or gentle inclines on quiet country roads, interspersed with the occasional dedicated bicycle path. There are a few hills to be biked and some long options for eager riders. Road surfaces are always paved. Because riding distances are for the most part short, B&R recommends the use of hybrid bicycles for this trip. Daily elevation gains range between 109 m (357 ft.) and 483 m (1,584 ft.).
“I ride my bike once or twice a month and am comfortable on two wheels.”
Relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.Read more on our Activity Levels
