We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
A taste of Europe in our own backyard
How do you improve on the luscious cuisine, vibrant city squares and ethereal cultural charms of Europe? Put it in your own backyard – and sprinkle in a dash of Canadian politeness. Feast on Québécois specialties in Manoir Havey, picnic along the Chemin du la Fraicheur, and sample foie gras, cider and seasonal berries as you ride from cosmopolitan Montréal to Quebec city.

Day by Day
Arrive in Montreal and ride on the famous Lachine Canal bike path. This evening embark on a guided tour of the Old Port district before dinner at a top-notch restaurant in the center of the action.
Travel east to Bromont to cycle through rolling beautiful town and country. Visit a winery on your way to the charming village of Sutton for lunch. Enjoy dinner by Chef Roland Menard, whose pan-roasted wild mushrooms were dubbed "stand-out" by Travel + Leisure.
Cycle to the south end of Lake Massawippi to Compton. Relax for lunch then cycle along the western shore. Enjoy a memorable dinner in town this evening.
Today's bike ride follows the impossibly bucolic Chemin de la Fraicheur (Route of Freshness), where we’ll witness Québec’s agritourism first-hand: cheeses, fresh fruit and ciders. Our ride continues along the “route of bridges” and the banks of the St. Lawrence, leading to a ferry with panoramic views of Québec City!
Today we visit the historic Île d’Orléans for excellent flat and gently undulating riding. Dinner will be held in one of the special rooms of Panache Restaurant—a final night you won’t forget!
Take your time to enjoy one last stroll along the bustling streets of Le Petit Champlain, before heading off to the train station or the airport for your trip home.
Get a taste of Europe… in our own backyard.
Hotel William Gray, Montreal
The newest (and coolest!) kid on the block, William Gray was voted to the Condé Nast Traveler Hot List in 2017. Located in the heart of Old Montreal, the property marries old world charm and minimalist design. Highlights include multi-jet rain showers, a fabulous rooftop bar and a hopping café. Manoir Hovey, North Hatley
This elegant property was once a private summer residence before being converted to a luxurious hotel just after the American Civil War. Privately tucked away at the northern end of Lake Massawippi and only mere minutes from the art galleries, antique shops and quaint cafés of North Hatley, the Hovey Manor has just achieved the prestigious Relais & Châteaux status. Our Guide, Jean Louis Doss was amazing. He really made the trip for us. We can’t wait to start planning our next B&R trip and have already told many friends about our experience, our guide and Butterfield.
We never wanted to be the biggest travel company in the world, just the best.
— George Butterfield
Daily riding distances range from 24-64 km (15-40 mi.), with options for shorter and longer rides on all days. The riding is predominantly flat in and around Montréal and Québec City, with hilly sections in between.
