We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
Island hopping by yacht & bike
On the Dalmatian Coast and Istrian Peninsula, the road less travelled entails rolling island roads, hushed inlets and secluded beaches. Meet local artisans producing small-batch olive oil and wine from the local grape, savour fresh fish like you never knew possible and cool off with dips in the Adriatic. With our glorious private yacht as a floating hotel, we ride spectacular coastal roads, unpacking only once while others hop between hotels.

Day by Day
We explore the old town of Split and its park with our local guide. From Bristivica, we pedal along the Babic vineyards, admiring the medieval hilltop town that presides over the woodlands.
After a short cruise to Vodice, we ride across the northern end of Murter. After an afternoon swim, we head to Zakan—a small, wild and uninhabited island (with the exception of our dinner host!).
Experience some of the region's best cycling on the way to the lighthouse at Veli Rat, where we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch. Tonight we cruise through the Liburnian islands to a marvellous cove on the island of Olib.
Discover Pag and its deliciously flavourful cheese at a local dairy farm. Our rolling ride continues toward the north of the island among indigenous olive trees and dry stone walls that surround the pastures.
From the harbour in Rab, we ride to the interior of the island, following a stretch of stunning coastal road before heading inland through Komrčar, with its typical Aleppo pines and the Dundo protected forest.
Our route begins on the bay of Punta Križa, eventually taking us to the island of Losinj. Lunch today will be served on the southern edge of town in a fragrant garden among more than 250 native plants.
From Martinšćica, we take on some challenging terrain paired with stunning scenery—from rugged mountains to seaside villages. This evening we celebrate our week on the Luna with our captain and crew.
This morning our boat steams past pretty peninsulas to the city of Pula, where we disembark in front of the Roman amphitheatre. Taxis will be available to either the airport or to Rovinj. Safe travels!
Set sail for the secluded.
The Luna is owned by a seafaring Croatian family. The yacht was completed in 2008 and is the ideal vessel for small groups. Each of the 8 spacious cabins has an en suite, and there is a sauna on board, and a Jacuzzi on the sundeck. The vessel is fully air conditioned and has a swim platform with two deck showers. Fully equipped with all the latest navigational and safety technology, the vessel is handled by a professional crew of six.
The boat and it's captain and crew were perfect! Chef was great! Felt totally safe in the Captain's care. Meals were delicious, fresh and wonderful.— Kathie Gordon
The views from the ride were spectacular, the sunsets unforgettable, and the Adriatic Sea swimming was the perfect restorative activity each day. The beautiful meals and hospitality of the local crew were also wonderful.— Emily Murray
The dramatic topography of the Dalmatian Islands that makes them spectacular to look at also makes them hilly to bike. With the exception of the first day, every day has at least one climb, and most days have several. We have sought to limit the daily distances as much as possible, with long options for the more avid riders. The majority of the riding is in the morning and early afternoon, in order to beat the high heat of the region.
“I ride a couple times a week and enjoy tackling a good climb or a steady incline.”
