We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
Guilin to Hangzhou
On this 7-day biking and hiking journey, we’ll introduce you to the China that exists outside of Hong Kong and Shanghai. Relax on the Li River, then revel in a tantalizing light show designed by the orchestrator of Beijing’s 2008 opening Olympic ceremonies. Traverse scenic roads through bamboo forests; explore the stunning Yellow Mountains; and luxuriate in West Lake, a haven where poets and painters have found inspiration for centuries. Here, we truly are slowing down to see the tranquil side of China.

Set forth on a ride through Yangshuo's incredible countryside, then refuel with a traditional Chinese cooking class! This evening, we're treated to a light show by the same artist who choreographed the opening ceremonies at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Ride along the picturesque roads in the national parkland surrounding Hongcun. This afternoon, visit an enchanting bamboo forest (you may recognize it from the film, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon")!
Board a train to Hangzhou and arrive at your hotel overlooking the breathtaking West Lake. The lake has long been a muse for poets and painters—spend the rest of the day exploring its surroundings.
Your final day will be spent getting to know the spectacular West Lake by bike. Stop to admire the Temple of the Soul’s Retreat—a famous statue portraying Buddha perched atop a lotus leaf. Dinner tonight is a special surprise!
