We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”

We’ve tried few pairings finer than Bordeaux, land of legendary wine and equally lauded biking. Aboard the opulent S.S. Bon Voyage, float past world-famous vineyards along the legendary Garonne and Dordogne rivers. We elevate the journey with thoroughly researched off-ship experiences, meeting with our local insiders who will regale us with wine specs as we sample. The dedicated bike paths, culinary delights and impromptu picnics are sure to be a hit. But what’s perhaps most luxurious? Unpacking once. Ah oui!

Day by Day
Upon arrival in Bordeaux, embark the ship at your leisure. We take a casual stroll through the UNESCO-listed heart of the city before dinner on board as we begin to sail north up the Gironde Estuary.
From the port, we roll along the Right Bank of the Gironde. After a tasty bistro lunch, we loop back for an early evening wine tasting in the Medieval village of Bourg-sur-Gironde.
Starting near Margaux, we follow the Route des Châteaux to lunch and a tasting in the village of Bages. Our afternoon ride takes us through the St-Estèphe, arguably the most scenic appellation of the Médoc.
Venture through the Barsac, Graves and the Sauternes appellations, passing by the legendary Château d’Yquem. At Château Guiraud, enjoy a tasting and private tour followed by a picnic lunch on the estate.
Today will be dedicated to exploring The Right Bank—the ancestral home of the world’s best Merlots. After working up an appetite, sample organic wines from a family-run vineyard over a relaxing picnic lunch.
We set out for today’s ride through the vineyards of Entre Deux Mers. Pause for a wine tasting and lunch at the 14thC family-owned Château de Castelnaud while the owner shares his winemaking tales.
We take our wheels from the countryside to the city streets with a morning bike tour of Bordeaux. This evening, we put our new-found wine knowledge to the test during a wine blending class.
After breakfast on the ship, depart Bordeaux at your leisure. We can assist in arranging a car to take you to the airport or train station.
Sail down historic waterways.

"We love that B&R's personable guides really add to the trip rather than just facilitating it."— Jane Santogrossi
There was a great sense of freedom being in Bordeaux vineyards at such close range.— Robyn Barrie
Most of the riding on this trip is flat to gently undulating on quiet roads and dedicated bicycle paths. There are some long options for eager riders. Daily rides range between 45 and 60 km (28 to 37 mi.).
“I ride my bike once or twice a month and am comfortable on two wheels.”
Relatively flat but will include inclines and the occasional climb or two.Read more on our Activity Levels
