Italy Bike Tour
Ancient Routes & Culinary Adventures
Home to some of our favourite Italian food, the culinary adventures are as extraordinary as the scenery in this region. Following an ancient route, we will pedal flat farmland and riverside paths from Verona to Mantua to Venice. We’ll stop to explore Emilia and perfectly preserved Ferrara before culminating the trip in the famously renowned city of canals, where the gondola ride to dinner may forever transform your sense of wonder.
We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”

Day by Day
Rendezvous in Verona and begin your ride along a flat path by the Lazy Adige River into the countryside, surrounded by the vineyards of Custoza. Enjoy lunch in a romantic trattoria hidden along the Mincio River Bank.
Ride through the National Park of the Po River and towards Le Grazie, a beautiful convent by the lake. Set out on a guided tour of Palazzo Te, explore Mantua and have dinner at your leisure.
Start your day biking on one of the longest bike paths in Europe, keeping the Po River on our side, ride next to timeless villages and medieval fortresses. This afternoon, enjoy a pasta-cooking demonstration and a stroll around the streets of Ferrara during an expert-led tour.
Today we exit the mighty city walls of Ferrara by bike and head into the flat countryside of its namesake province. Stop at Este Castle to learn about the production of balsamic vinegar and enjoy the afternoon in the lively city center of Ferrara.
Pedal along the banks of the Adige River to Chioggia, a coastal town by the sea. Stroll among the canals before boarding a local ferry for a short ride into the lagoon and the utterly traditional island of Pellestrina. Our ride ends at the northern side of Lido Island where we'll enjoy the Venetian "skyline" over refreshments. Arrivederci!
Casa Poli, Mantua
Set in the heart of Mantua, this ancient palazzo has been restructured with care by the Poli family. If the outside is in perfect harmony with the city centre, the interior definitely shows that it belongs to the 21st century. Rooms are decorated in a sophisticated minimalistic style and offer all modern comforts. View hotel website »
Hotel Annunziata, Ferrara
This 13thC palazzo is located in the heart of Ferrara, just behind the medieval castle. The modern design of the rooms combined with a careful choice of colours conveys a warm and welcoming atmosphere. View hotel website »
The routes on this trip are delightfully flat. That being said, daily routes are easily expanded by 30–50 km (18-31 mi.) for those looking for more of a challenge. They can also be easily shortened by hopping into our ever-present support van. Many of our routes follow designated bike paths, such as our unforgettable ride along the legendary Po River near Ferrara, the Mincio River near Mantua and our first-day ride on the lagoon islands of Venice.
You can't enjoy a great biking trip without a really great bike. On this trip, we’ll use well-tuned, high-quality, local bikes that provide a good fit to your size and weight.
