Luxury Peru Travel
Sacred Peaks and Valleys
With our luxury Peru travel you'll visit the Incan capital of Cuzco, take in colonial Spanish art and architecture throughout the valley, and of course, the ancient Incan sites from the fantastic ruins of Piscaq to the magnificent Sun Gate at Machu Picchu. Along the way, encounter our Peruvian friends: from a traditional Peruvian potter to a tile maker and charming fabric weavers.
We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
The right number of like-minded travellers to make new friends.

Day by Day
Arrive at the Jorge Chavez International Airport; typically international flights arrive in the late evening. You’ll be met by your driver and driven to the Miraflores Park Hotel for the evening and a well deserved rest.
We begin with an easy pedal through Lima’s Barranco and Chorrillos districts, with beautiful views of the bay, San Lorenzo Islands, Morro Solar hill and the impressive coastal cliffs of Lima. At a charming private house in the Lurin Valley, we’ll participate in a fantastic cooking lesson, while enjoying a cocktail made of Pisco.
Heading from Lima to Cuzco, we’ll hike from the town of Maras to the Salt Pans below—all down-hill for this first one. On the way you’ll enjoy wonderful views of the snow-peaks and mountains spread out in front of you before a relaxing evening and a la carte dinner at our hotel.
We hike today from Pallakta community, visiting such sites as the Pumamarca Wari archeological site, crossing the Muscapuquio Inca Terraces and visiting the Inca site of Half Moon until reaching to the ancient archeological site Ollantaytambo, offering the great opportunity to walk the narrow streets of the last existing Inca village.
Today we board the Vistadome train to Machu Picchu, one of the most spectacular rail journeys in the world, following the Urubamba River through the incredible Canyon of Vilcanota. We’ll ascend the Inca trail, visit the impressive "Wiñay Wayna" archeological site and marvel at the Sun Gate as we enter Machu Picchu.
This morning your guide meets you at the hotel to begin a complete guided tour of the Inca citadel. If you’re feeling adventurous you can even hike Huayna Picchu Mountain, before having free time to explore the and experience spectacular views of all of Machu Picchu and the valleys and mountains surrounding it.
Back in Cuzco today, you’ll explore the complexity of Peruvian history, with visits to the Santo Domingo Convent, and either San Pedro Market or the San Blas traditional district. After lunch, a short but challenging hike takes you all the way up to Sacsayhuaman.
Depending on your flight home we will either fly to Lima or drive, stopping along the way at Hacienda San Jose for lunch. And then, Bon Voyage!
Miraflores Park Hotel, Lima
Set in one of Lima’s most fashionable areas, the Miraflores Park Hotel takes you straight to the heart of all that's best about this great capital city. Renowned for its beautiful garden location beside the Pacific Ocean, it has breathtaking views out to sea. Colonial architecture, superb museums with Inca gold and Pre-Columbian antiquities, and glamorous shops, bars and restaurants are all just moments from the hotel. View hotel website »
Sol y Luna Lodge, Urubamba
Sol y Luna blends Old World charm with the tranquility of the Sacred Valley. Our hosts, Marie-Helene and Franz, have made Peru their home since the early 1990s. The stylish bungalow-style cottages on this intimate property are all thoughtfully decorated with local ceramics and indigenous woods. The hotel is surrounded by lovely gardens and features a fully equipped spa. View hotel website »
Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, Machu Picchu
The Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge embodies the three truths held sacred by the ancient Incas: “Location, location, location.” But besides being the only hotel in the lost city’s citadel, just a three-minute walk from the main ruins, this exclusive retreat also scores high on what B&R holds sacred: it’s been refurbished by the Orient Express group; its services are unequalled in the valley and it has breathtaking llama’s-eye views. La Casona Inkaterra, Cuzco
This historic colonial manor house (perhaps the first Spanish construction in Cuzco) is centrally located on an ancient Incan settlement near Cuzo’s present-day main square. Eleven spacious suites surround a sumptuous courtyard, where the patina of time is tastefully preserved. Contemporary amenities create the ambience of comfort and exclusivity enjoyed by guests of the hotel. View hotel website »
Our daily walks range in distance from 4 to 10 km (2.5 to 6 mi.), on cobbled city streets, grassy terraced hillsides and along the winding footpaths of the Inca Trail. We travel throughout the Sacred Valley at altitudes between 1,500 and 3,200 m (5,000 to 11,000 ft.). Apart from one challenging walk up to Machu Picchu, it’s moderate going. You may find, however, that the effect of the altitude will make the walks require more effort than they would at lower elevations. Expect some uneven stairs on our hikes in the ruins as well as some sheer drop offs in places.
Walking Sticks &
Included with all walking trips are Leki telescoping walking sticks and custom-made padded hip holsters, which comfortably carry one full half-litre water bottle. And while the walking sticks get “recycled” for use by another B&R traveller, the holsters are yours to keep at trip’s end.
