We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
The Adventure Capital
Your fantastic two-wheeled adventure begins in the beautiful South Island city of Christchurch, where re-building is well underway and the city is again coming into its own after the devastating earthquakes of 2011. From here, you’ll head further inland towards the foothills of the beautiful Southern Alps for some serious NZ farming and jet-boating experiences! Then, on down into the central South Island you go, with the beautiful Lake Tekapo, Mt. Cook and Wanaka flaunting their breathtaking panoramas. You’ll finish your trip in the ‘Adventure Capital of the World’, Queenstown—the perfect place to extend your stay.

Day by Day
Set forth this morning, cycling through the beautiful Canterbury Plains countryside and local farming villages to the edge of the Southern Alps, where we'll settle into our lodging for the next couple of nights. Dinner tonight is served alongside stunning views across the Rakaia Gorge and to the mountains beyond.
After a hearty breakfast, we'll join the Nell family on a visit to their working sheep farm. You'll get up close and personal with their flock and quickly learn the importance of sheep dogs as we enjoy a homestead lunch, followed by an optional afternoon ride back to the lodge.
Pedal towards Lake Tekapo today, where we'll stop for lunch near Geraldine. Then, continue on to the Mackenzie High Country where we'll enjoy a meandering ride towards the incredibly blue waters of Lake Pukaki. Dinner tonight is at the lodge with breathtaking views of the snowcapped Southern Alps in the background.
Our activity options today all depend on the weather (there is quite the pattern in NZ!). Choose from an amazing bike ride along Lake Tekapo and Lake Alexandrina; or a boat trip through a glacial moraine lake filled with icebergs. After which, we'll spend the afternoon of biking around the Mount Cook area, the highest peak in New Zealand!
Head out for a stunning ride along the hydro canals this morning. We'll stop for lunch at a small vineyard and then continue on to the picturesque town of Wanaka, the perfect place to absorb the scenery and to explore its charming shops and cafés. Tonight we take a break from wild venison, lamb and salmon to sample a fantastic local Italian restaurant.
Set out on a beautiful ride from the lodge to the ski resort of Treble Cone today. After lunch, we'll either take a fantastic eco-tour across the lake and over to Mou Waho Island, or head out to cycle part of the famous NZ cycleway from Albertown to Hawea and back.
We'll depart Wanaka for a final ride towards the amazing Queenstown today. After lunch, a short drive takes us into the city where we'll say farewell! Your guide(s) will be happy to make recommendations for great meals and adventure during your time in the country’s adrenaline capital.

We never wanted to be the biggest travel company in the world, just the best.
— George Butterfield
I don’t know how B&R does it – the quality of their trips is so consistently high! Just when we think they couldn’t do anything as good as our last trip, they do! Another fantastic experience with B&R.— Carolyn Zaslaw
The daily bike rides will average roughly 17-56 km (10.5 - 34.5 mi.) on good quality, paved roads with shorter options available for each ride.
“I bike about once a week at home.”
