Loire Valley Bike Tours
In the spirit of a region long regarded as the playground for French nobility, we welcome you to the remarkable Loire Valley. Here, two wheels are best for discovering the Loire’s wonders, most notably the breathtaking châteaux and properties overlooking the rivers, nestled in the woods and prominently perched atop the surrounding hills. There are countless vineyards to sample and gardens to stroll. As we ride by remarkable châteaux, you too will soon understand the allure of this incomparable land.
We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard how I like to do that.”

Day by Day
We rendezvous in Chartres in the virtual shadow of the city’s magnificent cathedral before making our way to Cloyes-sur-le-Loir, to start our ride. We’ll explore the sleepy villages of the Loire’s right bank en route to Tavers, where the owner of our hotel will introduce us to local wines before a dinner made from farm-fresh ingredients.
After breakfast we ride ot the hart of chateau country south of the River Loir, where riverside paths and forest roads lead us to the impressive Chateau de Chambord. This afternoon a short ride precedes some well earned time at the pool and dinner at the exclusive Les Trois Marchands bistro.
Another stunner awaits this morning in Chateau de Cheverny, followed by an afternoon spent exploring the landscapes and villages of the Sologne area, offering plenty of choices for a lunch on your own. This afternoon, tackle the Century Ride or spend some time back at the pool before dinner in our hotel.
Vineyards become more and more visible as we move westward today into the heart of the Touraine wine district. We’ll take in the spectacular Chateau de Chaumont and learn of its sordid history as the home of the king’s mistress before it’s off to Amboise for dinner on your own.
Our final day brings us to perhaps the jewel of the Loire: Chateau de Chenonceau. With perched atop five graceful arches, it boasts a history that spans from Henri II to the Second World War. Tonight we’ll celebrate our adventure at a favourite B&R haunt in Amboise.
After breakfast we’ll shuttle to the TGV train station in St. Pierres des Corp, from which you can make your way back home or on to your next adventure. Bon voyage!
Hotel La Tonnellerie, Tavers
The Thévard family welcomes us to their delightful property along the Loire’s northern side. Subtle French classic style characterizes the recently renovated rooms, though it’s the hospitality of ownership and personal touches that will remain most memorable. View hotel website »
Château de Breuil, Cheverny
Accessed only by a quarter-mile private lane through a canopy of forest, Chateau de Breuil is a lush oasis within its estate. The 39 rooms are all tastefully decorated, with spacious beds and modern bathrooms. View hotel website »
Le Pavillon des Lys, Amboise
Situated perfectly in the heart of Amboise, the Pavillon des Lys is a refi ned boutique hotel with only eight rooms, which our B&R groups fully take over. We are honoured to be the only active travel company hosted at the property. View hotel website »
