We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
Rolling Beyond the Wall
In only one week on this Germany bike tour, we explore the dynamic cities of Berlin, Potsdam and Dresden—cities replete with culture, history and art, but that also reveal a dynamic, contemporary soul. We venture off into the countryside, traversing forest paths and wending along lakeside trails outside of Potsdam, spinning through the woods of Swiss Saxony and through the Elbe River valley. We tour palaces and the incredible gardens of Sanssouci, reside in a castle, and immerse ourselves in all the delicious comforts that accompany us along the way.

Kempinski Taschenbergpalais, Dresden
Nestled between the baroque landmarks of the opera house and historic national museum, the Kempinski Taschenbergpalais has a location that is second to none. This trip was an excellent balance between riding through beautiful countryside and slowing down to learn the complex history and culture of the region.— Richard Gilden
This trip has been wunderbar! Using a bicycle as transport is nothing short of genius. We’ve discovered the German countryside in the least touristy-way possible while fully immersing ourselves in the culture. And, key for me, it burns calories!I Can I Will I Do
We never wanted to be the biggest travel company in the world, just the best.
— George Butterfield
The riding is mostly flat and a good part of it is on dedicated bike paths. In Berlin and Potsdam, we follow paths and quiet roads to get an inside view of the interesting history of these places. The Spree Forest is also very level riding, where riders could be required to push their bikes over a couple of low wooden bridges. In Saxony we bike along the river Elbe, which is virtually flat. Options for more biking are available almost everyday. Given the variety of road surfaces, B&R recommends a hybrid bike for all but the most confident riders.
“I’m in relatively good shape but I haven’t been on a bike since my last B&R trip.”
Relatively flat terrain with a few small hills—all very manageable for people trying their first biking trip.Read more on our Activity Levels
