Exotic El Andaluz
Out on the edge of Europe, long a cultural crucible with phenomenal Moorish architecture and laid-back Spanish friendliness, Andalucia quickens the senses and makes even a café con leche thrilling. The perched white towns, sun-dappled plazas and stunning rocky valleys make for thrilling cycling, with beauty at every turn in the road. With endless olive and orange groves, shimmering fields of wheat and jewel-like gardens, this region lives simply, yet incredibly well. Learn the art of carving a jamon iberico, sip sweet Jerez and let the wonder of Andalucia wash over you.

Day by Day
A warm-up ride brings us to Iznajar for lunch at a local favourite and then to our hotel (so fantastic it rivals the Andalucían countryside). Spend the afternoon by one of the Moorish-style pools, availing yourself of the spa facilities, horseback riding, or playing tennis.
Begin the day with a bike ride along the area’s rolling hills and a visit to a small mill where local olive oil is produced (and sampled), followed by a picnic in the shade. This evening we will witness a private flamenco concert to experience an exciting, authentic performance.
An incredible ride through the Abdalajis valley reveals the agricultural heart of Andalucía. Continuing to Ronda, spectacular views of the valley and mountains await, as well as 9 centuries of rich Spanish history. Explore the favourites of Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles as you discover Ronda’s local highlights.
White-washed villages and natural parks provide an excellent bike route and the perfect prelude to our arrival in breathtaking Zahara. Relax poolside at our hotel before tonight’s sherry tasting followed by dinner at our Hacienda’s chic and ambient dining room.
Our morning route takes us to the village of Espera, a great place to pause our ride, drink a cold cerveza and admire this sleepy southern Spanish hamlet. Afterwards, we’ll visit Almudenas Bull farm and learn the age-old art of torero.
After breakfast, you will depart from Seville where you can continue your journey on your own, or return home.
Barcelo La Bobadilla, Loja
Though only opened in 1986, this quietly luxurious Moorish-styled Andalucían “village” feels as if it has been around for centuries. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of olive trees, it is indeed fit for a King (Juan Carlos has stayed here a few times). Its plush surroundings include archery and skeet shooting range, tennis courts, an outdoor pool, a fitness room and massage and spa services. View hotel website »

This trip is rated Moderate to Challenging. While there are no 10-plus-kilometre climbs or mountain passes to negotiate, there is some notable ascent every day, often in terrain that is more challenging for the average rider. Roads are well-paved and lightly-trafficked, allowing for confident use of any bike type. Due to the distance covered from start to finish of the trip, van shuttles are required most days; none is longer than an hour, however, they do limit the options for more riding.
