Siena has innumerable ristoranti, trattorie and osterie. Trying out a place that catches your fancy can be part of the enjoyment of a meal, but if you’d like some help finding a spot, we suggest the following.
Osteria Le Logge
Via del Porrione, 33
A fabulous setting in an old pharmacy—the old cabinets still line the walls. Great quality Tuscan food in an elegant setting just off the piazza del Campo.
La Sosta del Violante
Via Pantaneto, 115
One of our favorite spots in town, you’ll find rustic wooden tables in this casual trattoria which serves an interesting, creative take on traditional Tuscan cuisine.
Da Enzo
Via Camollia, 49
A bit off the beaten track, this is a popular spot with locals that serves excellent regional specialities. Don’t miss the homemade ricciarelli.
La Compagnia dei Vinettieri
Via delle Terme, corner of Via del Pittori
An elegant enoteca restored in the traditional Tuscan style, with modern flourishes. The perfect spot for a light meal and a good glass of wine. The menu is traditional Tuscan, with soups, salads and crostoni as well as some pasta dishes. They serve an excellent variety of freshly baked breads.
I Terzi, via di Termini
Just off Piazza di Independenza
This rustic yet elegant wine-bar/restaurant offers fabulous simple fare, and is a very popular place with the locals. Extensive wine list and great desserts.
Ristorante Mugulone
Via dei Pellegrini, 8-12
Very charming brick interior with a good wine list and a great selection of tasty Tuscan dishes. Good spot for steaks and other meat dishes.
Osteria dei Bigelli
Piazza del Campo
A not-too-touristy alternative on the main piazza. Good pasta and main courses with a fantastic atmosphere.
Il Bandierino
Piazza del Campo
One of the better options for pizza on the main square. The food is good and prices are reasonable and of course the atmosphere is splendid if you sit outside.
