Capital Investment
Long cloaked from the west, even today Hungary remains a great mystery for many, but with B&R leading the way from Vienna to Budapest, we reveal a welcoming land rich with surprises. From the Austrian capital we head south, pedalling across the gently rolling Styrian countryside, onwards to Hungary but not before an exclusive castle stay in the company of Count Kottulinsky. Crossing into Hungary, our introduction takes us along the shores of Lake Balaton—central Europe's largest lake—before indulging our tastes in Badacsony, one of the country's principal wine regions. As we roll along easygoing pathways more castle stays await en route, as does Michelin-starred dining, horseback riding, a private cruise and perhaps a spot of skeet shooting. Pronouncing the names along the way might not get any easier, but inspired by its charms and warmed by its hospitality, Hungary is pure enchantment.
Here’s a sample of what you can expect on your custom-designed Bespoke Vienna to Budapest Biking adventure. Intrigued? Contact a Bespoke Trip Planner for further details.
Day 1 A warm-up ride through the Styrian countryside to our first castle stay at the Schloss Obermayerhofen
Day 2 An open day of options: biking, swimming, time at the spa, medieval sharpshooting even! For dinner we all gather this evening in the company of owner Count Kottulinsky
Day 3 Enter into Hungary and wend around Lake Balaton’s shoreline path, stopping for a wine tasting and dining on Michelin-starred dining this evening
Day 4 Generally flat riding today, though a Century Ride is available for the eager. Horseback riding and skeet-shooting on the grounds of Hertelendy Kastely, our base for the next two nights

Schlosshotel Obermayerhofen
We are the only active travel company with access to the Schlosshotel Obermayerhofen, an impressive castle-cum-hotel owned by
Count and Countess Kottulinsky. The castle has been in the family for 300 years and offers elegant rooms with hillside
views of their private park and lake. It also offers B&R guides absolute peace of mind knowing that all requests-big, small
or downright quirky-will be taken care of by our gracious and interesting hosts.

Castle Hotel Chateau Visz, Visz
Situated in the hills above the beautifully blue Balaton, and
featuring just 12 guest rooms, Chateau Visz is the ideal B&R country hotel. It was built as a hunting lodge in the 18th century, and it isn’t hard to understand why its owners chose this peaceful location. But don’t let its small size fool you; the hotel’s restaurant is probably the finest Hungary has to offer.

Hertelendy Kastély, Kutas
Hertelendy is one of those unique properties destined to become legendary at B&R. Locally-owned and Swiss-run, the hotel blends Hungarian authenticity with Western European standards of service and amenity. Its 15-room intimacy and vast, immaculate grounds provide the ideal ambience for the culmination of our trip.

Sarah Dallas & Janet Neustaetter
Vienna to Budapest Biking 2011
"It was our favourite B&R trip, so far. The biking was great and the planned routes were fantastic, too.
I think the final night was the most memorable part of the adventure!"

Easygoing to Moderate
We rate this trip Easygoing to Moderate. Much of the trip is flat, although a few hills are to be found, mostly on Day Three. Daily distances average a very doable 50 km. (31 mi.). There are many options for further riding, as well as a Century Ride option for those seeking a more vigorous ride.
