All the World’s a Stage…
That Shakespeare fella sure was on to something. A favourite of star-cross’d lovers for centuries, we’ve happily discovered that the Veneto is just as adored by kids as it is by grown-ups. Why most folk rush from Florence to Venice without stopping in at this magnificent swath of Northern Italy, we’ll never understand. Their loss is our gain; With plenty of time together and apart—the kids canoe, climb trees and make pumpkin-stuffed cappellacci, you sample the region’s top vintages, explore fair Ferrara and float down Venice’s famed canals by gondola—don’t be surprised if you’ve all fallen in love with this place by week’s end.
Day 1 Pedal along the Adige River to our hotel nestled amid the vineyards of the Valpolicella while kids enjoy some climbing fun
Day 2 Enjoy a picnic on the shores of romantic Lago di Garda, Italy’s largest (and, some claim, most beautiful) lake
Day 3 Partake of a pasta-making demo at a small agriturismo outside Ferrara
Day 4 Parents wander UNESCO-protected Ferrara while the kids learn to flag-throw
Day 5 Cycle into Venice, then don traditional masks and set off in gondolas to an incredible evening at a palazzo on the banks of the Grand Canal
Day 6 Breakfast and arrivederci in Venice

Set amid the famous Valpolicella vineyards, this five-star Relais & Châteaux property has been converted from a Renaissance villa into an exquisitely-appointed hotel. The tranquil, sprawling grounds—featuring vineyards, meadows, a huge swimming pool and a private park—are surrounded by old stone walls. The hotel’s gourmet restaurant features a talented young chef who prepares Mediterranean classics that can be enjoyed either indoors or on the outside terrace.

Easygoing
This trip is rated Easygoing. For the most part, the routes on our Verona to Venice trip are delightfully flat. In fact, one guide delights, “it’s flatter than Holland here!” That said, daily routes are easily expanded (by 30-50 km) for those looking for more of a challenge, or easily shortened by hopping into our ever-present support van or the numerous organized local transfers. Many of our routes follow designated bike paths, such as our unforgettable ride along the legendary Po River near Ferrara, and our final-day ride on the lagoon islands near Venice. The ride around Imola includes a long steady climb rewarded with stunning vistas. Both rides around Monte del Re end with a 5 km hill to the hotel, where van shuttles will be readily available.
