Locked in Land and in Time
Although Umbria’s landlocked position makes it a little more difficult to reach than other parts of Italy, its hallowed grounds, fertile river valleys and historical architecture make it worth the extra effort. Here, you will find Spoleto, which was once a key military outpost for the Roman army; the eponymous hometown of St. Francis of Assisi; Umbria’s “green heart,” through which the Tiber River flows; the fabled wine country of Montefalco and so much more. Umbria’s proud national spirit has been imbued into the bricks of the very hotels at which you’ll be staying—and B&R’s savvy guides will help bring this to life.
Day 1 Spot duomos, military outposts and Roman aqueducts as you walk from Spoleto to Monteluco
Day 2 Walk the "path of the olive groves" from Spello to Assisi, embark on an evening expert-led walk of Assisi's holy grounds
Day 3 Take in the magnificent views from the slopes of neighbouring Monte Subasio and enjoy a lunch of the local torta al testo
Day 4 Beginning in wine-famous Montefalco, walk to Bevagna, stopping at a friend of B&R’s for lunch
Day 5 Explore the castle hamlet of Torre del Colle before making your own pasta for lunch. Tonight we have a medieval-themed evening planned including dinner in a converted Roman amphitheatre
Day 6 Say arrivederci in Perugia
