Our Friends Are Your Friends
With nary a rollercoaster or costumed character for miles, Tuscany is our kind of theme park. For five adventure-packed days, you and your kids have the run of the place: biking the famed Crete Senesi along gorgeous, carefully selected routes suitable for all ages, staying at top-notch hotels that welcome rather than just tolerate children, taking part in hands-on pizza- and gelato-making workshops and sampling vino nòbile with an expert (that last one is, of course, just for the folks). It’s the perfect place to unleash your inner artist. Or chef. Or bocce champion. All this and some of Europe’s best scenery, too.
Day 1 Cycle through the glorious Val di Chiana, the largest valley in the Apennines Day 2 Kids catch a private falconry demonstration at the Mèdici fortress while parents take a walking tour of Cortona with a local artist Day 3 Pedal to Pienza via gently rolling hills and olive groves Day 4 Explore the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, famous for its colourful frescoes, before lunch at our friend Silvia’s farm Day 5 Join local guide Lucia on an enlightening walking tour of Siena and the Piazza del Campo while the kids learn to make gelato with an expert Day 6 Breakfast in Siena, then arrivederci in Florence

Relais Villa Petrischio, Farnetta
A beautiful villa built in the 1800s, the Relais Villa Petrischio is set in the midst of a cypress and pine tree forest. It offers stunning views over the entire Val di Chiana and expansive, private grounds which you may choose to explore--when you’re not relaxing in the pool or your finely decorated room.

Relais Alla Corte del Sole, Petrignano
Built in the 16th century as an old monastic hamlet, the Relais Alla Corte del Sole now sits perfectly along the Tuscan and Umbrian border. Its transformation into a charming villa surrounded by the lush verdant Tuscan hills fits us just fine. Be sure to take a dip in the pool.

Grand Hotel Continental, Siena
Located in the heart of Siena, the five-star Grand Hotel Continental is a recently converted 17thC palazzo, originally designed by the baroque architect Giovanni Fontana. Ponder the history of this majestic, beautifully frescoed building as you sip prosecco in the courtyard.

Moderate
This trip is rated Moderate. Since most towns in Tuscany are perched on magnificent hilltops, most days include some challenging climbs. Total daily biking distances average 40 km (25 mi.) with shorter distances for family rides. We’ve also planned lots of fun alternatives for young travellers. The B&R van is always nearby for those looking to hitch a ride.
