It’s All About Who You Know…
If B&R were a Michelin-star restaurant, Bistro trips would be our spin-off bistro next door. Same brilliant kitchen, same renowned chefs—just a little more casual and pared down.
One of Italy’s most beautiful and beloved regions, Tuscany has earned every accolade and exaltation bestowed upon it. Pack some extra hosannas; you’ll need them after you’ve set eyes on the sprawling farmlands, walled villages and hidden vineyards. While some come for the sun and to be seen, we’ve got better plans: sumptuous spreads laid out by close friends, wine tastings at family-owned cantinas, and spectacular biking through more picturesque hills than you can count. And as much as we appreciate the comfort of its fine hotels, it’s the rustic charms that capture our imagination. Tuscany is magical. Believe the hype.
Bistro trips offer more independence (more meals on your own), and the hotels tend to be 3 or 4-stars instead of off-the-chart. But the heart of every one is exactly the same as our marquee trips—same incredible routes, events, insider access and, of course, B&R guides.
Day 1 Warm up in the Tuscan hills, with a lunch stop in delightful San Gusmé to stoke the legs
Day 2 Loop through the heart of Chianti, then venture into Siena for an evening of city culture
Day 3 Ride the quintessential Tuscan road into the chalky hills of the crete
Day 4 Pedal to tiny perfect Pienza for lunch and a taste of pecorino cheese, with plenty of pool time at the hotel upon your return
Day 5 Enjoy a home-hosted lunch in the Val di Chiana before wrapping up the week in style in sophisticated Cortona
Day 6 Breakfast in Cortona, then arrivederci in Terontola

Villa Curina Resort, Siena
Located 5 km from the 15th century town of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Villa Curina Resort is a charming 4-star accommodation in the heart of the Chianti area. The rooms and suites located in the villa date back to the 16th century and are distinguished by their elegance and Tuscan tradition. Surrounded by a luxurious Italian-style garden, Villa Curina has a picturesque backdrop and features a gourmet restaurant producing its very own extra-virgin olive emollient, from the olive trees of Curina.

Casa Bianca, Crete Senesi
The CasaBianca, a 15thC villa and working farm, has been converted into comfortable apartments in the heart of some of Tuscany’s most gorgeous countryside. We take full advantage of its extensive grounds while staying there. Our gracious hosts, Alba & Luigi Scaperotta, produce their own wine and olive oil, and give us a pizza-making demo using the villa’s original wood-burning oven.

Villa Marsili, Cortona
Featuring frescoed bedroom walls and stunning views of the countryside, this hotel is ideally situated within the ancient walls of the medieval town centre.

Moderate
This trip is rated Moderate. We cover hilly terrain, with average daily distances of about 41 km (26 miles). We purposely avoid the steepest climbs, but be aware that Tuscany has hills.
