Fantasy Island
Sicilians are masters at the art of the warm welcome. They’ve certainly had practice; Greeks, Romans, Phoenicians, Arabs and other from-away visitors have all dropped in on this ravishing island jewel; over the centuries, leaving a wealth of artistic, architectural and culinary mementos in their wake. We travel deep into the lesser-known corners of the largest Mediterranean island to appreciate its true possibilities by bike. Riding across seaside salt pans and through quintessentially Italian coastal towns, we’ll savour Sicily’s unique charms in its Greek ruins, Michelin-starred dinners and a private Marsala tasting with a local legend. You’ll leave behind new friends, but you’ll come away with much, much more.
Day 1 Descend into Modica, famed for its Spanish baroque architecture and distinctive (not to mention delicious) chocolate
Day 2 After a morning cheese-making session, enjoy coastal riding—and perhaps a dip—before dinner at one of Italy’s top tables
Day 3 Visit magnificent Greek temples below the city of Agrigento with the expert guidance of our friend Michele
Day 4 Unwind from a day of glorious biking on the grounds of a five-star resort, an oasis in the island’s western countryside
Day 5 Opt for the B&R Century Ride to the Tripani salt pans, with a boat ride to the island of Mozia
Day 6 Breakfast in Mazara del Vallo, then addiu in Palermo

Christopher Mooney
Sicily Biking 2010
“This trip thoroughly surpassed my expectations. I was looking forward to getting away to experience a new destination, eat and enjoy a rustic Italian experience. Our guides, Rafa and Silvia were really great. They took such care to make sure Eric and I had a super time, they catered to our specific needs—like food allergies. The whole experience was fantastic. We got cities, medieval, baroque, architecture, food, food, food, people, history, wildlife, excitement, beach, religion, seafood, culture, temples (amazing), cheese making (really fun and interesting)—I can't believe how much riding I did, and how nice the weather was. I would do this again, and I'd hope to have the same guides.”

Sicily Biking 2010
“This was the trip of a lifetime; every aspect of the trip was extremely well planned and much care was given to making the experience as memorable as possible. The variety of activities and the attention to detail was spot on.”

Sicily Biking 2010
“It was when we come across a herd of sheep on a beautiful countryside road in Sicily that we understood the true meaning of the expression “Slow down to see the world”. After many right turns and left turns, we finally reached our destination—a week that will be remembered for a lifetime.”

Sicily Biking 2010
“Marya has put together the best route notes we've ever had on a trip. The whole trip was wonderful. We loved Sicily, the other travellers and our guides. There is nothing like a B&R trip. Intellectually we know there is a lot of pre-trip work, but until you tour with another group, you don't realize just how great B&R is at details. We can't understand how you manage to get guides time after time who are so special. We can't wait for our next trip!”
