The Unspoiled Coast
Smitten with coastal riding? Then say buongiorno to Puglia, your beautiful new seaside paramour. Featuring sun-soaked villages, glorious secular olive groves, delicious all-organic food and mile upon seemingly endless mile of soul-stirring biking, we’re baffled as to why Italy’s heel isn’t overrun with visitors. Not that we mind; after an intimate dinner at a 12thC castle, an exclusive olive oil tasting (the region produces more wine and olive oil than any other in Italy), a visit to the UNESCO-protected trulli and a glass (or two) of prosecco in the shadow of a famous cathedral, you’ll be glad you had the place virtually to yourself.
Day 1 Ride into Otranto, then take a historic walking tour of this former Byzantine stronghold
Day 2 Cycle along the coast past ancient stone villages, prehistoric menhirs and Byzantine crypts, stopping for lunch in a masseria
Day 3 Spend the first of two nights in the heart of Lecce, a baroque marvel
Day 4 Savour lunch and an olive oil tasting at Tenuta Monaclli, a fortified farmhouse
Day 5 Unwind at the stunning Torre Maizza, a B&R exclusive
Day 6 Explore Alberobello, the “city of trulli,” with our local guide
Day 7 Breakfasts in Savelletri, then arrivederci in Bari

Masseria Montelauro, Otranto
A lovely new hotel located just outside of Otranto, this recently restored masseria incorporates styles from around the Mediterranean. The main building is an old fortified farmhouse that is largely original, while the furnishings are an appealing blend of Moroccan and Italian. The hotel is family owned, and we are bound to feel like guests in a southern Italian home, where hospitality is paramount.

|
Risorgimento Resort, Lecce
Situated in the heart of Lecce’s old town and shopping district, this newly restored 18thC property has maintained its historic splendour which is visible throughout the buildings façade and interiors. With beautifully appointed rooms, fitness centre and Salus per Aquam Spa you will feel right at home.

Torre Maizza, Savelletri di Fasano
The Torre Maizza is an oasis among the olive groves with its 26 spacious rooms, tranquil pool and panoramic rooftop bar. Aside from the splendid common areas of the main masseria, an Aveda spa is available for those seeking extra pampering, while in finer weather visits to its private beach club are only a short shuttle away.

Robb Foster
Puglia Biking 2009
“Puglia was our 6th B&R, so we have a certain expectation of the trips, but this trip exceeded our expectations. This trip was exceptionally well run from start to finish, and we can say with confidence that Marco was the reason. We never thought of Puglia as a region we would want to cycle, but word of mouth is out about this trip. On all of the trips that we have been on, at least one person in the group has great things to say about Puglia. Now we know why and we recommend this trip to everyone.”
Robert Cenci
Puglia Biking 2009
“This was our second trip with B&R and both were outstanding. We love Italy and everything about the country, and this trip had a good mix of biking and cultural exposure.”
