Bohemian Chic
Two must-see European capitals on one magnificent trip? Sure, a plane would be faster, but we prefer the (really) scenic route. Start: Prague—a boho-chic playground where resplendence is the rule, not the exception. End: Vienna—Austria’s handsome jewel along the Danube. In between, Czech hospitality; mile after mile of great riverside rides past vineyards; hilltop monasteries and crumbling castles; a hearty bowl of goulash and a pint of Pilsner enjoyed over candlelight in a private library; a leisurely float down the Big D and the grandest of all finales. Trust us; getting there really is half the fun.
Day 1 Ride from Kost Castle through picturesque St. George’s Forest
Day 2 Stop for a medieval lunch and a pivo before hearing the fascinating history of your hotel from our hostess Petra
Day 3 Bike the Czech countryside to a marvelous lunch at Chateau Kotera, then head into Prague for a special-access visit to Strahov Monastery
Day 4 Cycle the delightfully flat paths along the Danube River, surrounded by vineyards to dinner at the legendary Landhaus Bacher restaurant
Day 5 Wander the hallowed halls of the baroque Melk monastery before a tasting at a nearby wine cellar
Day 6 Pedal downstream to colourful Tulln, then celebrate the trip in style at one of Vienna’s best bistros
Day 7 Breakfast and bis speda in Vienna

Chateau Mcely, Mcely
Chateau Mcely is one of the Czech Republic’s finest hotels. Constructed as a 17thC country estate for the Thurn-Taxis family, it fell into disrepair during the Communist era and has only recently been restoed (passionately and painstakingly) to its former glory by owners Jim and Inez Cusamano. Enjoy the beautiful panorama from the observatory as you reward yourself for today’s ride with a velke pivo (a large beer).

Mandarin Oriental, Prague
The ‘MO’ is the newest addition to the Czech capital’s high-end
hotel lineup, and offers all the trappings of its prestigious
hotel group. Tucked among the cobbled streets of Mala Strana
on the left bank of the Vltava River, its 99 rooms have been
lovingly melded into the structure of an old monastery near
Prague Castle. Among its many amenities, the spa, situated
in the former church chapel, stands out in particular. (We
also recommend it for where to stay the night before your trip
begins.)

Hotel Richard Löwenherz, Dürnstein
Founded on the site of a 700-year-old Clarissinian Abbey, the Richard Löwenherz is now a hotel with richly historical interiors filled with antiques, Renaissance sculpture, elegant chandeliers and stone vaulting. We are well looked after by Frau Theiry and her staff, who quickly make us feel at home whether we’re lounging in the living room with an after-dinner schnapps, lazing in the rose garden by the pool, or enjoying a sunny breakfast on the arbour-covered terrace overlooking the Danube.

Hotel Sacher Wien, Vienna
Established in 1876 in the centre of the city, there is simply no questioning that the five-star Hotel Sacher is Vienna’s most highly regarded hotel. Blended traditional décor and all the modern amenities, its location across from the Opera House, the Kärntner Straße, and a mere five-minute walk from the Hofburg Imperial Palace is a welcome convenience, but it’s this Leading Hotels of the World’s famed eponymous chocolate dessert that may leave the most enduring impression.

Karen Jacobson
Prague to Vienna Biking 2010
"Our guide Phil was incredible—he cared so much about everyone and everything, and even when things got stressful he always had a smile on his face. Phil's knowledge of the bike and his riding ability was a huge asset to us all. The guides were perfectly matched. I would have thought that Phil had been guiding for decades—his care, concern, organization and personality was a major reason why this trip was as wonderful as it was."
Sandy Brown
Prague to Vienna Biking 2010
"This was our first B&R trip, and compared to other similar travel companies, we appreciated all the extra things B&R provided (carriage rides, no need for cash at cafes, etc.). We also loved our guides Phil and Giorgio—they were extremely accommodating and enjoyable to be with—we will absolutely travel with you again!"
Robin Storfer
Prague to Vienna Biking 2010
"I absolutely loved the trip! This was my first B&R trip and first biking trip overall. I was impressed by so many of the little details and the general experience. I really thought our guides did a wonderful job as well. They tried so hard, worked tirelessly, and did all that they could to make each client feel comfortable and taken care of. I would say that my most memorable moment was simply getting to know the people on the trip and taking part in the longer rides. I would tell another traveller that our trip was amazing—it was fun, active, adventurous, unique, and a great way to see a new city/country."

Easygoing to Moderate
This trip is rated Easygoing to Moderate. The riding in the Czech Republic and Austria offers much variety in landscape. Heading east of Prague and through the forested area around Chateau Mcely, we encounter some moderately hilly terrain. Riding to Chateau Kotera is relatively flat with a few rolling hills to climb. The bike paths along the Danube are virtually flat and hassle-free. Long options are available.
