Truffle Hunting in Modest Italy
If B&R were a Michelin-star restaurant, Bistro trips would be our spin-off bistro next door. Same brilliant kitchen, same renowned chefs—just a little more casual and pared down.
The Piemonte region is overflowing with goodness: exceptional riding that deliver us to spectacular vistas plus intimate little hotels with the warmest welcomes. And as the home of Barolo, Barbaresco, great pasta and the Slow Food movement, it tastes as good as it looks. Explore the lesser-known wine-growing region of Dogliani and picnic in hazelnut groves. We’ll even treat you to an unforgettable afternoon with a real trifulao in search of the prized white truffle of Alba. Slow down with us in the home of Slow Food.
Bistro trips offer more independence (more meals on your own), and the hotels tend to be 3 or 4-stars instead of off-the-chart. But the heart of every one is exactly the same as our marquee trips—same incredible routes, events, insider access and, of course, B&R guides.
Day 1 Warm-up with a flat ride through the Saluzzo, stopping for a lunch of fresh local fare along the way
Day 2 Ride to Slow Food capital Bra and settle in to our winery design hotel
Day 3 Pedal the chalky hills of the Roero, pause for a Barbaresco tasting, then explore the history and shopping of historic Alba
Day 4 Discover the lesser-known towns and villages of the Dogliani region
Day 5 Learn the art of the truffle hunt from a professional before a hilltop dinner finale
Day 6 Breakfast in Monforte, then arrivederci in Turin

Moderate
We rate this trip Moderate. The first two days are mostly flat, while the last three days are hilly. The climbs are not steep, but can be long. Daily distances range from 31 to 54 km (19 to 33 mi.), with daily options for more riding, including a metric Century Ride on Day 4. The biking is mostly on quiet, sparsely trafficked roads.
