Sacred Peaks and Valleys
B&R’s newest way to travel! This itinerary is one of our new locally-supported, private trips. They use the hallmarks that we’re known for: great hotels, friendly and talented local guides plus memorable experiences but it’s just your group and on the dates that work best for you.*
On this incredible adventure, you’ll explore the former Incan capital of Cuzco, along with colonial Spanish art and architecture throughout the valley, and of course, the ancient Incan sites from the fantastic ruins of Pisca to the magnificent Sun Gate at Machu Picchu. Along the way, you’ll meet interesting people: from a traditional Peruvian hat maker to a tile maker and charming fabric weavers. All tours and hikes are lead by local experts. Depending upon your exact dates, we can craft an itinerary to include some of the many festivals and processions which take place throughout the Christmas and Easter seasons.
*Dates are subject to hotel availability.
Day 1 Arrive at the Miraflores Park Hotel in Lima for a night out and a well-deserved rest
Day 2 Fly from Lima to Cuzco, where you will explore the capital of the Incas and admire its colonial Spanish architecture
Day 3 Drive through the Sacred Valley, stopping in the artisan communities of Pinipampa and San Salvador
Day 4 Today, you'll ride Peruvian Paso horses over the snow-covered mountain peaks and through the Andean villages of Maras and Moray
Day 5 Board a Vistadome train to Machu Picchu; this is one of the most spectacular journeys in the world
Day 6 Take an optional hike up to the Sun Gate, Huayna Picchu or the Temple of the Moon. Later, take a dinner-time ride on the famous Hiram Bingham train through the Sacred Valley
Day 7 Take a cooking class in Qolqampata before dinner, and later drive to Sacsayhuaman, the ruling palace of the Inca

Miraflores Park Hotel, Lima
Set in one of Lima’s most fashionable areas, the Miraflores Park Hotel takes you straight to the heart of all that's best about this great capital city. Renowned for its beautiful garden location beside the Pacific Ocean, it has breathtaking views out to sea. Colonial architecture, superb museums with Inca gold and Pre-Columbian antiquities, and glamorous shops, bars and restaurants are all just moments from the hotel.

La Casona, Cusco
This colonial manor house (perhaps the first Spanish, construction in Cusco) is centrally located on an Incan settlement near Cusco’s present-day main square. Eleven suites surround a sumptuous courtyard, where the patina of time is tastefully preserved.

Sol y Luna Lodge, Urubamba
Sol y Luna blends Old World charm with the tranquility of the Sacred Valley. Our hosts, Marie-Helene and Franz, have made Peru their home since the early 1990s. The stylish bungalow-style cottages on this intimate property are all thoughtfully decorated with local ceramics and indigenous woods. The hotel is surrounded by lovely gardens and features a fully equipped spa.

Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, Machu Picchu
The Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge embodies the three truths held sacred by the ancient Incas: “Location, location, location.” But besides being the only hotel in the lost city’s citadel, just a three-minute walk from the main ruins, this exclusive retreat also scores high on what B&R holds sacred: it’s been refurbished by the Orient Express group; its services are unequalled in the valley; and at 2,500 m (8,200 ft.), it has breathtaking llama’s-eye views.

Moderate to Challenging
This trip is rated Moderate to Challenging. Daily walks and hikes range from 3-6 kilometers (1.9 – 3.7 miles) along cobbled city streets, grassy terraced hillsides and the winding footpaths of the Inca Trail. You may find that the effects of the altitude will make the walks require more effort than they would at lower elevations. The activities on this trip are geared for children 6 years old and up. If you will be travelling with smaller children, let us know and we can revise the itinerary to suit your group.
