Life in a Lower Gear
It is the quiet mystique of Myanmar that proves so compelling. Here is a nation that, for many, feels largely undiscovered and yet is one of the gems of Southeast Asia—and one of the most extraordinary trips in B&R’s long history. From biking the lush countryside, to strolling through ancient villages and spectacular temples, to floating along the current in the deluxe comforts of a riverboat, we take in Myanmar at a pace that reflects the gentle character of the country and reveals a land that will forever live in your imagination. Any decision to travel here must be carefully considered—but we think it’s the right thing to do. The Burmese people embrace us and encourage us to return.

Day 1 Fly from Yangon to northern Myanmar, lunch at a winery (seriously), and bike to Inle Lake.
Day 2 Bike to remote villages, walk to a temple for a picnic lunch and watch local fishermen ply their craft.
Day 3 Board a boat to the ancient ruins of In Dien, explore villages, check out local weaving.
Day 4 Cross Inle Lake, visit a monastery and fly to Mandalay, where we’ll bike into the city.
Day 5 Sunrise bike ride, tour of the Amarapura Monastery. Lakeside ride and watch marble carvers.
Day 6 Board the RV Paukan, cruise the Ayeyarwady, stopping in at trading posts and isolated villages along the way.
Day 7 Cooking lesson aboard the Paukan, a temple tour by bike in Bagan and further cultural explorations.
Day 8 Morning ride to view temples and then onto a lacquerware studio to observe an artist at work
Day 9 After breakfast, fly to Yangon to catch international connections or to stay a few extra days.

Myanmar Biking 2011
“This expedition to Myanmar is fabulous - mainly because of guide Tyler Dillon. He is personally responsible for developing the trip itinerary, and for guiding us through this complex country. Myanmar is truly a 3rd world country with challenging tourist issues. But Tyler and his assistant guide Christina, made it seem like a breeze. They both made the trip extremely memorable—one of the best B&R trips that we have ever been on.”

Myanmar Biking 2011
“The most memorable moment of the trip was sitting on the floor of a new house on stilts in Inle Lake, surrounded by the new home's family and all the praying villagers, while the Buddhist monks chanted during the house-blessing ceremony. It was incredibly touching and such a privilege to be invited to share this experience.”

Myanmar Biking 2011
“Our latest trip to Myanmar definitely did not disappoint, and as always, B&R offered insights into a country that few have travelled. The sweet nature of the people was a highlight for us. Our local guide was informative and desired more then anything that we experience the kindness of her, and of her countrymen. We loved the daily boat rides – observing the men fish, children paddling to school and the moving experience of the Monk's blessing four newly built homes all donated generously by B&R, and us the clients. Thank you for re-introducing Myanmar to the roster of your trips!”

Easygoing
We rate this trip as Easygoing. The terrain is generally flat throughout our daily rides of 20-30 km (12-19 mi.), although you should expect a few hills and some dirt roads in the countryside. Our walks take us through villages. To avoid midday heat, the days tend to start early.
