Keys to the Kingdom
It’s not just because The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan boasts some of the most important Christian sites in the world that you feel like you’re in a Discovery Channel special when you travel here. It’s the soaring mountains, colourful souks, the Roman ruins and vast expanses of desert. It’s floating in the Dead Sea, and reliving Ben-Hur (at least in your head) in an ancient hippodrome. It’s just a bonus that Jordanites are some of the most welcoming hosts we’ve ever encountered. Because when you’re wandering across the Wadi Rum on your camel, watching the sun set over the dunes en route to your Bedouin camp, it doesn’t really matter that this is one of the most democratic and progressive pockets in the region. Lawrence who?
Day 1 Explore the Roman ruins of Jerash, including a hippodrome where chariot races were held
Day 2 Cycle through the Jordan River valley to Bethany-beyond-the-Jordan—then have dinner in the King Hussein Club in Amman

Day 4 Cycle to the mountain peak of Mt Nebo, from where it is believed that Moses looked upon the Promised Land—then float on the Dead Sea

Day 6 Walk through the “Siq” into the heart of Petra and explore its myriad tombs and shelters with an expert

The Four Seasons, Amman
The Four Seasons collection of hotels needs no introduction, and it is no secret that this is the number one choice in Amman. Located on the 5th Circle (seemingly all destinations in Amman are linked to a circle or roundabout), the Four Seasons has all of the amenities that you would expect, including several restaurants, a spa and pool, and the increasingly expected WiFi.

Evason Ma'In, Ma'In
Nestled in a steep canyon below sea level and with abundant natural hot springs feeding waterfalls and a river, the Evason Ma’In is an oasis of tranquility. With strong ties to the local community and restaurants that showcase local produce, our two nights here offer a wee bit of paradise.

Mövenpick Hotel, Wadi Musa
The Mövenpick Wadi Musa is perfectly situated at the entrance to the Siq, which leads into the city of Petra. The hotel features several restaurants, a pool and business centre, and is the perfect base from which to explore Petra.

Bedouin Camp, Wadi Rum Desert
Our accommodations in the desert are based on traditional Bedouin camps—though the level of luxury we take it to would certainly surprise most Bedouins. Our camp features private tents furnished with comfortable beds, warm and luxurious blankets, and everything else one might need for a magical night in the desert.

Moderate
This trip is rated Moderate. Our bike rides average 35-40 km (22-25 mi.) over variable terrain, from coastal flats to rolling hills. On the rare occasions that we encounter a steep pitch (such as on the descent to below sea level to reach the Evason Ma’In), our support vehicles are on hand. Any walks that we do are easygoing, as we explore sites such as Petra and central Amman on foot, with one more challenging optional hike into Petra.
