Though Lance Armstrong’s Italian debut was hampered by his broken collarbone, our 2009 Giro still thrilled to the sight of his familiar frame speeding through the Veneto and the Dolomites last May. Lacking the massive crowds and hyper-security of its French cousin, if you want unfettered access to the world’s best cyclists, up close and personal, the Giro’s the thing. The race route is as compelling as ever, so choose a great region to view it. For mountain stages, the Dolomites are the best; if Tuscany’s more your thing, ask about a unique opportunity to watch the race pass literally in front of your door amid the vines of Montalcino.
