Biking the Northern Capital
Beijing translates as “northern capital” from Mandarin, but it might as well mean “bicycle city”; few other world cities are as accessible on two wheels as China’s sprawling ancient metropolis. Here, we hit the streets with more than 2 million other cyclists to explore the long and rich history of this dynamic and ever-changing Asian capital. We’ll pedal past Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City to visit the Temple of the Sun and walk through
hutongs that feel light years away from the busy city centre. And that’s just the
first day…
Day 1 Ride past Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City to the Temple of the Sun and an authentic local lunch in one of the city’s hutongs (narrow streets)
Day 2 Celebrate your adventure with a champagne toast atop an underexplored section of the Great Wall
Day 3 Breakfast and zai jian in Beijing

Easygoing
This trip is rated Easygoing. The riding is easy and minimal on the post trip, but enough to give you a sense of what it’s like to cycle as a local! The traffic can be unnerving at the beginning, but in this country of 1.3 billion people and seemingly as many bicycles, drivers are accustomed to sharing the road with cyclists, and we have an experienced support team to accompany us.
