Two-Wheeled Tango
Unbelievable variety is commonplace in Argentina’s northwest—from jaw-dropping mountain vistas and canyons that change colour when the sunlight hits them to incredibly lush cloud forests and the blank canvases of the Andean salt pans on which Nature paints her prettiest skyscapes. Humans have done their best to complement nature’s genius with colourful colonial towns, miles of bike-friendly pavement, strong Incan and Catholic traditions that still live in the rural communities, flavours and rhythms that have fed and moved generations of Altiplano people, and Salta, known locally as simply “The Beautiful.” And then, there’s the wine: as good to luxuriate in (via a wine-spa treatment) as it is to drink. Deliciousness all over.
Day 1 Ride from Tafi del Valle in the majestic “holy valley” to a tutorial on local wine in Cafayate
Day 2 Bathe in barrels of bubbling waters spiked with cabernet at a wine spa
Day 3 Challenge yourself to a Century Ride through the incredible landscapes of Route 68
Day 4 Experience the quiet surroundings of “Salta the Beautiful” in the foothills of the Andes mountains
Day 5 Ride through a cloud forest and explore Purmamarca, the “Town of Seven Colours”
Day 6 Soak up the incredible sights of the Salinas Grandes salt flats and the blood-red rocks of Los Colorados
Day 7 Breakfast in Purmamarca and chau in Salta

Stan and Valerie Piha
Argentina Biking 2009
“We had a great time on this trip. The scenery and changes in the terrain were amazing and the colours were beautiful. Being hosted in homes for a cocktail or a meal was delightful. Our group had a wonderful time. Argentina is a must for the B&R traveller.”
Linda Laskowski
Argentina Biking 2010
“My most memorable moment on this trip was stopping at a colonial home owned by the former caretaker, now in his 70s. He opens the Victrola, winds it up, and puts on a record. We dance with his neighbor, who tells us many years ago the courtyard would be filled every weekend with people laughing and dancing. We thank them as we leave, but he responds no, it is he who should thank us, 'porque esto es lo que pone el alma en el cuerpo' (this is what puts soul in the body). As we mount the bikes to leave, I wave goodbye—the owner is standing in the door, catches my eye, and lights up the space between us with his smile.”
